It is well known that I am an avid fighting game player. I will preface that with, I am not a very good fighting game player, but I enjoy them nonetheless. So when Arc System Works, Marvel and Playstation all teamed up to make an anime-inspired fighter, well, I was in from day one.

Doom, the granddaddy of FPS, turns 30 this year, and to celebrate, we are getting one hefty expansion for The Dark Ages titled Revelations. After being announced at the Xbox 2026 showcase and given a surprisingly close July 8 launch date, we haven’t gotten too much of an idea as to what it would include apart from a new Spear melee weapon and some classic Doom levels re-done for the modern age.

Remember the smell of stale cigarettes and what is probably vomit mostly made up of slushy? The horrible carpet that said vomit had soaked into? The loud clink of machines converting ten and twenty-dollar notes into gold coins? No? Well then, treasure your youth while it lasts. For everyone else, arcade games come with a mix of memories, both of place and of game design itself.

Forget Ekans, it’s the big brown snake Pokemon GO players will be enjoying this September as they make their way around Queen Street Mall and the iconic Brisbane riverside! Taking place across September 26th and 27th, the Pokemon GO City Safari will dazzle players in the glittering metropolis that is BrisVegas, Australia’s fourth most liveable city. Running from 9AM to 6PM each day, things kick off at Queen Street Mall with tickets available online at a reasonable $17AU.

Whilst I profess to be a rhythm game afficionado, Rhythm Paradise Groove is actually my first experience with the previously titled Rhythm Heaven series, of which Groove is the fifth entry across a twenty-year span. Huh. Well better late than never I suppose, unless we’re talking about timing in a rhythm game (boom-tish). A Warioware-like fever dream of rhythm mini-games set in increasingly incredulous scenarios, Rhythm Paradise Groove won’t surprise longtime fans the same way it surprised me.

So I’ve just come from reviewing the Epomaker TH108 Pro keyboard, where, despite its incredible functionality, I was caught off guard by the unit’s weight. Now, I’m getting the second half of the PC gaming experience, the Epomaker NEX Pro mouse, and while the functionality is pretty by the numbers in a range of ways, this is a mouse that is far greater than the sum of its parts. Let’s begin with form-factor, because it’s perhaps one of the more baffling (but also extremely positive) elements.

If you’ve been keeping an eye on some of my gaming exploits through our weekly games podcast, Patched, you’ll know that over the last 12 months, I’ve been jumping into LEGO Batman games, both old and new, as my son begins to become more immersed in the world of video games.

Back in March, I was supposed to write a review of Pokemon Pokopia. I started one – I actually got about halfway through! – and it was honestly glowing. It spoke about how this was the game the series had needed for years, and that in the midst of all going on in the world, it was to 2026 what Animal Crossing was to many in 2020. But instead of being able to finish that review, I instead spent the month of March – and several months since – dealing with the worst burnout I’ve ever experienced.
