From the Government Gazette and Media Statements (20 July 2026) IMMIGRATION The Department of Home Affairs gazetted a directive granting temporary residence visa and permanent residence permit applicants a blanket waiver of medical report requirements under the immigration regulations.

Reply: (1)    Yes. On 13 April 2026, I participated in an urgent informal engagement with members of the Board of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. The engagement was convened through my office following concerns raised by members of the Board regarding governance and procedural issues associated with the process of appointing the NSFAS Chief Executive Officer.

Compensation Fund - The CF is still being audited for the 2025/26 financial year and the total unaudited expenditure incurred is R2 192 428 139,56.

What are the relevant details on (a) how the Labour Activation Programme is monitored to ensure the effective reintegration of Unemployment Insurance Fund beneficiaries back into the labour market, (b) what mechanisms and indicators are in place to track progress and (c) how challenges have been addressed to maximise successful employment outcomes? • The UIF 2026/27 Annual Performance Plan (APP) provides for the measurement and monitoring of LAP projects.

Reply: 1. Development Finance Institutions, including the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), have played a critical role in reshaping ownership patterns in the South African economy by expanding access to long term industrial finance for historically disadvantaged South Africans. DFIs have supported transformation by financing black owned industrial enterprises, supporting employee ownership structures, and promoting participation by previously excluded groups in key productive sectors.

Reply: (1)(a) The implementing entities appoints service providers (ANPs/ISPs) through an open procurement process. The service providers then install the Wi-Fi Hotspots at various locations that are closer to the communities. However, this is a requirement that the department and its entities should consider including for future broadband projects.

(a) Office accommodation: A space utilization assessment was conducted to determine whether existing office accommodation could adequately accommodate the additional personnel appointed through Project 20 000. (b) Workplace health and safety: The Department's inspectors supported the implementation of Project 20 000 by conducting inspections and providing technical guidance to ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety requirements.
