August 29th, the day of the festival, was one of the best days of my life. Thirteen year old girls were running around with flower crowns in their hair, completely worry free, holding hands with each other, harmony and bliss. It feels unreal that something as beautiful as this festival could have happened and I feel so happy to have been a part of Daisy Chain Fields. I wore a dress custom designed by Zoe Kestan of Weedslut and my dancers were dressed in Weedslut as well.

For a while, it seemed that YouTube and Netflix had made this genre of entertainment obsolete. But a new wave of Gen Z-targeted ‘shows’ that live on social media are adopting similar formats.

So yes, kink is decidedly trending.

Buyee had me convinced that 2nd Street would become my personality for these ten days. Instead, it became the place I kept popping into whenever I passed one, hopeful that this would be the branch not yet run through by the fashion girlies. I finally left with an X-Girl sweatshirt which I've already worn more times than I'd like to admit, but if time is precious I'd spend it elsewhere.

Twenty years ago, sixteen million people tuned in as a young, ambitious fashion writer, Betty Suarez (played by a then-unknown America Ferrera), nervously awaited her job interview at Meade Publications. Wearing adult braces and a colourful Guadalajara poncho, she was immediately rejected for the coveted role of assistant to MODE editor-in-chief Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius) in favour of a thinner model candidate.

Last week, we were lucky enough to head out to Berlin to catch Wet Leg play a very special show - in a very pink warehouse, with rooftop go-karting to boot - for this year’s Telekom Beats Not a Passenger campaign, which in turn is part of their Own Your World initiative. The project is all about making sure that Gen Z have the tools to own their own online experiences, on a social media landscape full of noise, opinions, and unnecessary drama - a cause that makes a lot of sense to Wet Leg.

But sustainable art took an ecological turn in the 1960s as artists began creating work out of materials like rocks, soil, and water and using natural landscapes as their canvases. This land art focused less on the finances and more on environmental activism, urging their audience to consider nature in a new light and do what they could to protect it. It wasn’t until a few decades later that Recycled Art emerged, with artists literally turning trash into something with renewed value.

So much of the means of our self-reflection and self-documentation has been thrust into our control and close proximity; the lens gets closer, the image more unwieldy.
