The PPA (Professional Publishers Association) exist to represent, champion and support specialist media businesses. Members range from large multi-national companies to smaller independent publishers and from consumer magazine media to B2B news, data and information providers.
Synonymous with magazine media for over 100 years, today the PPA membership is made up of modern, multi-platform media businesses carving out a new future defined by trusted, quality content. Whether on the page, online, or face-to-face, PPA members create professional, inspirational and influential media content that engages and influences audiences.
Our members reach broad and diverse audiences through engaging online content, informative, educational and professional magazine publications, exciting live events, unmissable podcasts and many other touchpoints, to create communities connected by shared interests.
Our 300+ members include the UK’s largest publishing houses, including Bauer Media Group, Condé Nast, Future PLC, Haymarket Media Group, Hearst UK, Immediate Media Co, Incisive Media, New Scientist and William Reed Business Media, as well as 150 smaller independent publishers.
Specialist publishing remains an integral part of the media industry. The sector is worth £3.74 billion to the UK economy, employing around 55,000 people, and with more than 40 million adults in the UK reading a magazine each month.
From liaising with government, to chairing important forums and strategic working groups, the PPA unites the specialist media sector around the current issues and challenges that are crucial to its members and our industry. Source

Briefing: Business & Trade Committee session on Royal Mail
Royal Mail, Ofcom (Royal Mail’s regulator) and the CWU (Royal Mail’s recognised union) all gave evidence. The session was led by Committee chair, the RT Hon Liam Byrne MP. During the meeting, it was suggested that there may be more sessions in the future. You can watch in full here. In a letter sent by the Committee to Royal Mail, summoning them to give evidence, concerns were expressed over service failures, missed delivery targets and allegations of prioritising parcels and “batching” letters.
Changes to EU "de minimis" customs duty
This change is temporary while EU countries negotiate a new customs regime over the next two years. By 1 November 2026, a further handling fee is expected to be applied to goods sent from outside the EU. This is a reaction to the increase in the import of small, cheap parcels. This move has significant implications for publishers with customers in Europe, who face an increase in costs under the new system and risk financial and business consequences if found to be non-compliant.
Cosmopolitan UK partners with Universal Pictures for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie with return of CosmoGIRL
CosmoGIRL returns for the first time in almost 20 years and is fronted by fan-favourite character Rosalina. The limited-edition issue was distributed across major UK retail and city locations, including Westfield Stratford, Trafford Centre, Metrocentre, and high streets in Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester.
Ecotalk partners BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine for second year of ‘Make a Metre Matter’ campaign
Participants are encouraged to use their metre for things like growing plants for pollinators, harvesting homegrown veg, adding water to welcome wildlife, or starting a compost heap to boost your soil. This year, the campaign welcomes its first commercial partner in sustainability focused mobile network, Ecotalkand its Chief Ecologist, Chris Packham, who will be tending to his own metre garden for a social video series throughout the campaign.
Hearst UK announce three senior appointments in commercial division
These hires follow the arrival of Alex Unitt as Chief Commercial Officer, whose appointment brought Hearst UK’s Client & Agency Sales and Brand Diversification divisions under a single leadership for the first time. In the newly created role of Head of Partnership Solutions, Sarah Newton Boyd will oversee Hearst UK’s licensing and commerce partnerships. With over 30 years’ experience across media sales, marketing and commercial content, she joins from Haymarket where she was Partnerships Director.
Immediate launches new visualised podcast and social brand - PPA
Hosted by gardener and author Amy Chapman and broadcaster and nature enthusiast Katrina Ridley, the first season of the Connect to Nature podcast is sponsored by Woodland Trust and explores how to look after ourselves and the planet. Time Out and Gay Times launch new report on the future of queer nightlife in the UK
The new research reveals queer nightlife is at an existential crossroads – but a new generation is rebuilding it. The full report is available to download here: https://forms.timeout.com/the-right-to-dance The research paints a stark picture of a scene under pressure. 77% of respondents say the number of queer nightlife spaces in their area has decreased, while 82% feel these closures have directly impacted their sense of community. Just 7% say they feel well represented by the spaces that remain.
PPA launches Next Gen satellite event at PPA Festival
The Professional Publishers Association (PPA) has announced the launch of a dedicated Next Gen Stage at this year’s PPA Festival (Wednesday 6 May 2026 in London), creating a new space for emerging talent to learn, connect, and build the skills needed to succeed in publishing today. New for 2026, the Next Gen Stage is designed for ambitious professionals under the age of 30.
