By the time Congressman John Lewis died in 2020, he had spent more than half a century fighting for the liberation of Black Americans.

As a Black trans woman, I have never understood why so many people insist on treating them as separate stories. Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, and announced freedom for enslaved Black people more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

The Hill reports that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, provided few details on how many detainees were transferred, where they were transferred to, and whether this marks a temporary or permanent closure of the much-maligned facility.

Before he was shot, his mother lifted him up so police officers could see there was a child in the car. This mother’s desperate act was supposed to be proof of innocence, vulnerability, and a new life they were obligated not to destroy. It didn’t matter. They still fired. Young Kohen was shot in his ribcage while his mother was holding him.

Specifically, not all humor that is manifested from social media trends is meant for you to engage with, and certainly, for you to perform. For example, apparently, there’s a recent trend on Instagram and TikTok in which content creators jokingly say the phrase “sit down” in different ways, specifically, as a white mom, then a Black mom, then an Asian mom, then an Indian mom.

Authorities say John Wallace-Bey, of New Castle, Delaware, was arrested Tuesday night after investigators tracked him to Philadelphia’s Olney section. He now faces charges including murder and attempted murder as he awaits extradition to Delaware.
