Professional Driver is a controlled circulation, business-to-business
magazine with a monthly frequency (12 issues a year) and a circulation of 78,259.
The publication was launched May 2009, and was bought by its management team in January 2020. The sector accounts for significant sales of large cars, with a rich mix of up-market saloons, luxury SUVs and MPVs. The market is
significant too - total licensed vehicle numbers in England increased by 9.3% to 242,200 from 2013-14. In addition, there are approximately 21,000 taxi
and private hire vehicles in Scotland and 9,000 in Wales. In England, there has been an overall 31.2% increase in licensed vehicles since 2005.
Professional Driver circulates to all UK fleet operators of private hire and chauffeur vehicles and, outside London, taxi operators. The readership
includes extremely large fleets such as Addison Lee, several thousand UK operators with in excess of 50 cars, and smaller niche operators, right down
to one-car licenced chauffeur operators. Source

Lyft expands in London with £40 million Gett UK acquisition
Uber’s biggest rival Lyft has made a third UK acquisition in the past 10 months with the £40.7 million takeover of taxi app Gett. The move means the majority of London’s black cabs are now signed up to a Lyft-owned app – either Gett or Freenow, which Lyft bought last July. Gett adds a different client base to Freenow, as it has a stronger corporate and public sector organisation user base. The takeover will nearly double the number of rides on the Lyft platform in London.
Uber man Hiemstra to replace Alkateb at dispatch giant Autocab
Autocab has moved quickly to replace departing CEO Safa Alkateb, who is leaving the dispatch systems provider in June after 14 years to explore a new, unspecified challenge. Experienced former Uber executive Frans Hiemstra (pictured) will take over as CEO. Hiemstra brings a decade of experience of working across international markets in taxi, fleet and private hire businesses with Uber.
Veezu expands into Bedfordshire with Luton deal for Go Cars and Spearhead
Veezu has acquired Luton-based Go Cars, the largest private hire operator in Bedfordshire. The move adds 600 cars to the Veezu fleet and gives Veezu access to Luton and surrounding commuter towns including Dunstable. The Go Cars deal also includes subsidiary Spearhead Cars, based at Leagrave to the north of Luton. The move is as part of Veezu’s plan to build national private hire capacity outside London.
GMB calls on Birmingham Airport to improve ‘disgusting’ driver facilities
GMB union has called on Birmingham Airport to fix the “disgusting” facilities that private hire drivers using the airport face having to use. Drivers are forced to pay to use bathrooms “caked in grime”, while waiting for passengers arriving at the Midlands’ largest airport, the union said A recent survey of drivers found bathroom facilities caked in grime and waste, and no waiting areas for drivers, except the paid-for multi-storey NCP car park.
