After losing key players through the first two weeks of the season, the Sharyland Pioneer Diamondbacks are focusing on building up and getting healthy before district play begins in two weeks. Progress Times spoke with Pioneer head football coach Eddie Galindo. In an interview, he said the team is still in a good position despite recent injuries, and that they remain focused on preparations for district. “We got some key players banged up.” Galindo said.
Ready and Focused
The Palmview Lady Lobos volleyball team completed the latest step in their program maturation in their Tuesday night district opener after winning the final three sets against the rival Mission Veterans Lady Patriots (21-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-21). The now 17-6, 1-0 Lady Lobos will carry their undefeated district record on the road tomorrow against the Roma Lady Gladiators.

Phony food vendor allegedly conned over $253,000 out of Hidalgo County Head Start Program
EDINBURG — The Hidalgo County Head Start Program allegedly paid an imposter masquerading as a representative of its food service provider $235,457.20 in 2024, continuing to pay the fraudster even after being alerted about the likely theft. The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office arrested Susan Ware, 57, of Cucamonga, California in May of 2025 and charged her with felony theft in the second-degree for allegedly misappropriating the program’s funds.
City May Order Audit of Troubled MEDC
An unrepaired leaking roof on a 35-year old building may have caused the Mission Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) house of cards to fall. The Mission city council will decide on Tuesday whether to conduct a comprehensive financial audit of the MEDC and the move comes just as its CEO Teclo Garcia announced his departure from the position. Garcia’s letter to city leadership on August 31 stated that he will retire effective September 11.
