Portland musician Idea the Artist joined us on Sounds of PDX for a conversation about creating across disciplines, making music between cultures and genres, and her upcoming performance at Easyfolk Fest. Known offstage as Inés, Idea the Artist is a Guatemalan-American singer, songwriter, painter, writer, archaeologist and folklorist. Those creative identities aren’t easily separated – and neither is her sound.

Portland singer-songwriter Kenzy Peach joined us on Sounds of PDX to share music and talk about the sincerity, humor and theatricality behind her wonderfully uncensored folk-pop. Along the way, we explored the audience she affectionately calls “unsettling women” and “big-hearted freaks,” her evolution since releasing Bric a Brac Baby, finding her place in Portland’s music community and what she’s looking forward to when she takes the stage at Easy Folk Fest.

Ben Rice stopped by the PRP studio for a Sounds of PDX Drop-In Session, and if you know Ben, you know there was no shortage of ground to cover. We talked music, of course — his, the evolution of Ben Rice & The PDX Hustle, and the kind of influences and collaborations that keep things moving creatively. But Ben is also one of those people who really seems to embody the phrase working musician. He plays. A lot.

This is the second release from her album When I Find You (full album drops February 2027!).

Sounds of PDX turned up the volume for our latest Drop-In Session with Portland punk band The Kieths. The band packed three songs into their visit—“47 to 53,” “10 Foot Flames” and “Reason to Rejoice,” all from their debut album, Hate Being Human—and gave us the story behind the band, the name and the ever-expanding Kieth lore. At Portland Radio Project, we believe some of the most important stories in our communities are being told by the nonprofit organizations working every day to address challenges, create opportunities, and improve lives. Through Community Voices, we’ve had the privilege of sharing those stories for years. This past year, a partnership with Meyer Memorial Trust allowed us to expand that work and shine a spotlight on eleven organizations serving communities across Oregon.

The Oregon Prison Birth Project, part of the Ostara Initiative, provides compassionate, trauma-informed doula support and advocacy for incarcerated pregnant people in Oregon. Edwina Koch, a birth doula and social worker with the Oregon Prison Birth Project, joined us for this Community Voices episode to discuss reproductive justice, the role of doulas in supporting incarcerated mothers, and the importance of dignity, care, and connection during pregnancy and birth.

For more than 50 years, Bradley Angle has provided safety, shelter, and support for survivors of domestic violence in the Portland area. Tiffany Thomas-Guice, Bradley Angle’s Program and Services Director, joined us for this Community Voices episode to discuss the organization’s recent shelter expansion and what it means for survivors seeking safety and stability.
