Welcome to the Park Slope Reader, the only publication that is locally owned and operated. Park Slope and the adjoining communities around Prospect Park are unique in the New York City landscape — one that has its own identity and that deserves it’s own voice. That’s why we began the Reader a few years ago. From Prospect Heights to Windsor Terrace, From Park Slope to Gowanus, our intention is to foster greater awareness about these dynamic neighborhoods through editorial and advertising. We bring our streets to life on our pages, highlighting its people and businesses; the writers, artists, merchants, organizations and individuals who live and work among us. We report on events and issues that are important to us all. We publish quarterly (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall). Seven thousand copies are distributed and redistributed throughout the community. My family was born of a showmance. My husband, David, and I met starring opposite each other in a college play in which I played Bonnie, the exotic dancer, and he played Phil, the depressive alcoholic who threw Bonnie from a moving car. Isn’t that how all great love stories start? David and I were Theater Kids. Correction; we are Theater Kids. Because when you are really, a genuine-article Theater Kid, you are one for life.

After moving to the U.S., she found that the grocery store spices were flat and flavorless—nothing like the vibrant, aromatic ingredients she had grown up with. Thus began her journey of sourcing fresh spices directly from small family farms in India. She founded Sourcery in 2023 with the goal of bringing freshness, fairness, and flavor back to the kitchen.

Like millions of other children of the 1970’s, I’m a huge Star Wars fan. I always wanted to be a member of the Rebel Alliance. I wanted to be friends with Wookies. I really wanted to be a Jedi. I wanted to use my special powers to challenge oppressive, imperial forces, and ultimately save the day. I didn’t think that in my middle-aged existence I would be trying to do just that. But here we are. Not even six months into this second Trump presidential term, and our democracy is waning.
