The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State or PSU) is a public state-related land-grant research university with campuses and facilities throughout Pennsylvania. Founded in 1855 as the Farmers' High School of Pennsylvania, Penn State became the state's only land-grant university in 1863. Its instructional mission includes undergraduate, graduate, professional and continuing education offered through resident instruction and online delivery. The University Park campus has been labeled one of the "Public Ivies", a publicly funded university considered as providing a quality of education comparable to those of the Ivy League. Penn State is one of the leading research universities in the United States, ranking 22nd in total research expenditures (at $1.034 billion) and boasting 12 top-ten rankings, trailing only Johns Hopkins University, the University of Michigan and MIT. Penn State is consistently a top producer of Fulbright Scholars and has also produced numerous Rhodes Scholars, Guggenheim Fellows and MacArthur Fellows.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — "One Million Scholar's Chip" is the winning flavor of a Penn State Berkey Creamery contest that commemorates the one millionth degree awarded this summer by the University. The historic threshold was crossed Aug. 15, during summer commencement ceremonies at the University Park campus. The flavor will be available beginning Aug. 24, the first day of the fall semester, through the end of the calendar year, according to Doug Thomas, operations manager for the Creamery.
Professor works with Tunisian educators via State Department language program
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Brandon Sherman, assistant research professor of applied linguistics and assistant director of Penn State’s Center for Language Acquisition, spent this summer working with educators in Tunisia through the U.S. Department of State’s English Language Specialist Program. The grant allowed Sherman to spend three weeks training 40 English teachers and 25 supervisors on how to conduct action research as a means of improving student performance and assessment.
Penn State Altoona to hold auditions for fall production of ‘MacBeth’
ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona’s theater program will hold auditions for a fall production of William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth,” edited by director Mary Beth Geppert, at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, and Tuesday, Sept. 1, or by appointment during common hour on either date, in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. Audition sides are available outside office 134 in the Misciagna Center. The production also features pre- and post-show sections written by Adria “Jay” Schmidt.

Recording multiple signals simultaneously is more difficult because sensors must maintain reliable contact with the body even through hair, sweat and everyday movement.
Penn State program helps Pennsylvania children receive the support they need
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Throughout Pennsylvania, child support professionals in county domestic relations offices work with families, often during difficult times, to ensure that children receive the support they need and deserve. For 25 years, the Penn State Justice and Safety Institute (JASI), part of Penn State Outreach, has been helping prepare those dedicated child support professionals as the administrators of the Pennsylvania Child Support Enforcement Training Institute (PACSETI).
Penn State Board of Trustees to meet Sept. 17-18 at University Park
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Board of Trustees will hold its next public meetings Sept. 17-18 at the University Park campus. Committees will meet beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in the boardroom of the Nittany Lion Inn. The public meeting of the full board will begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at the same location. The meetings are open to the public and available via Microsoft Livestream. Agendas and livestream links will be posted to the board website in advance of the meetings.

Penn State Abington tennis aces national academic honors
Eleven Penn State Abington student-athletes including Sevara Tursunboeva, a biology major, earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association scholar-athlete honors for the 2025-26 academic year. The men's and women's teams were also named for team academic achievement. ABINGTON, Pa. — The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced that Penn State Abington NCAA Division III tennis achieved team academic honors, and 11 players earned individual recognition for the 2025-26 academic year.
