The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State or PSU) is a public state-related land-grant research university with campuses and facilities throughout Pennsylvania. Founded in 1855 as the Farmers' High School of Pennsylvania, Penn State became the state's only land-grant university in 1863. Its instructional mission includes undergraduate, graduate, professional and continuing education offered through resident instruction and online delivery. The University Park campus has been labeled one of the "Public Ivies", a publicly funded university considered as providing a quality of education comparable to those of the Ivy League. Penn State is one of the leading research universities in the United States, ranking 22nd in total research expenditures (at $1.034 billion) and boasting 12 top-ten rankings, trailing only Johns Hopkins University, the University of Michigan and MIT. Penn State is consistently a top producer of Fulbright Scholars and has also produced numerous Rhodes Scholars, Guggenheim Fellows and MacArthur Fellows.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Zi-Kui Liu, the Corning Faculty Fellow in Materials Science and Engineering in the Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, will receive the 2026 Materials Theory Award from the Materials Research Society. Liu will receive his award and present a lecture, “The Quest for Predictability — Thermodynamics as a Foundation Across Scales and Domains,” as part of the Materials Research Society’s annual meeting from Nov. 29 to Dec. 4 in Boston.
Fifteen Penn Staters honored as 2026 Alumni Fellows
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Alumni Association celebrated 15 exceptional Penn Staters during the 2026 Alumni Fellow Awards ceremony on Sept. 23, welcoming alumni from across the University back to Penn State to receive the Alumni Association’s highest honor. Since the award was established in 1973, more than 900 Penn State alumni have received the distinction.

Penn State Altoona professor to read from collected poems
ALTOONA, Pa. — Patricia Jabbeh Wesley, professor of English at Penn State Altoona, will read from her newest book of poetry on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 12:05 to 12:20 p.m. in the Titelman Study of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. “Patricia Jabbeh Wesley: Collected Poems, 1998-2020” was released in August. It spans two decades of her work and includes all six of her previously published books of poetry.
