In the previous article featured in Pump Engineer, August 2023, pump system design for efficiency was discussed. In this article, the subject is making the pump hydraulically and mechanically more efficient. So, what drives these two efficiency loss drivers? To begin, it is crucial to understand physics’ first principles. Looking within the pump itself there are several ways to lose efficiency. Mechanical friction and fluid recirculation are the most prominent.

The Japanese pump company Tsurumi is celebrating its 40th anniversary in Europe. The pump manufacturer came to Europe exactly four decades ago. Starting small in Düsseldorf, Germany in 1983, Tsurumi’s European distribution network now extends from Norway’s North Cape to Cyprus. Managing director Daniel Weippert attributes the success to two factors: robust pumps and excellent service.

Norwegian digital analytics company, InfoTiles, is expanding its AI-driven technology trial with Anglian Water, moving from a successful 24-site pilot to a 100-site proof of concept programme. The collaboration aims to use artificial intelligence to manage approximately 317 biofilters, pumps, and valves, enhancing operational visibility and asset management decision-making.

Hayward Tyler Inc has secured a contract from nuclear innovation company TerraPower for the design and development of primary and intermediate sodium pumps to support the Natrium Reactor Demonstration Project in Wyoming, USA. The Natrium Reactor Demonstration Project is being developed near a retiring coal plant. When completed, it will be a fully functioning commercial power plant.

Danfoss Power Solutions, a supplier of mobile and industrial hydraulics as well as electric powertrain systems, has launched its H1F fixed displacement bent axis hydraulic motor. Designed for open- and closed-circuit applications, the H1F motor offers best-in-class efficiency, proven reliability, and a compact design. The latest development in Danfoss’ high-power H1 series of pumps and motors, the H1F fixed bent axis motor offers overall efficiency of up to 95%.

Sykes Group announces the launch of its latest innovation, the Sykes/Primax XH250. Developed with the distinct requirements of the mining and quarry industries in mind, the XH250 aims to transform dewatering operations in these sectors. Mines and quarries are continually expanding, reaching greater depths and widths, demanding reliable dewatering solutions. The Sykes XH250 addresses this challenge by delivering higher heads and flow rates.
