What’s next for the Belmont desalination plant?
After completing an 830m seawater intake tunnel to support the Belmont desalination plant, Hunter Water continues to progress several important workstreams at the site. The next stage of works involves the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment, while the seawater intake structure will also be connected to the treatment plant. With the seawater intake tunnel completed, Hunter Water will also remove offshore construction equipment and return the jack-up barge to Newcastle Harbour.
Xylem to acquire pump companies for $2.06bn
Xylem has agreed to acquire Cornell Pump and Roper Pump from Indicor for US$1.46 billion (AU$2.06 billion), expanding its industrial pumps portfolio into more demanding fluid-handling requirements. Both US-headquartered, Cornell Pump and Roper Pump produce engineered technologies for slurry transport, solids handling and challenging suction-lift applications. Their capabilities also include patented self-priming technology.
Power and Water appoints Tier 1 project management partner
TSA Riley has been appointed as Power and Water Corporation’s Tier 1 project management partner, supporting essential services across the Northern Territory’s 1.3 million square kilometres. The consultancy will help Power and Water deliver critical power and water infrastructure across the state, from Darwin and regional centres to 72 remote communities.
Beveridge sewer pump station overhaul to boost Melbourne’s north
Yarra Valley Water has completed its upgrade of the Mandalay sewer pump station in Beveridge to increase network capacity in Melbourne’s booming northern growth corridor. The final stage of its Rankin Street sewer project, delivered in partnership with Jaydo, is designed to support current and future demand as development continues across the Beveridge area. The project included a range of technical and operational measures to work within existing site constraints.
Downer locks in $900m in utilities contracts
Downer has secured more than $900 million in water and energy contracts across Australia and New Zealand, including major maintenance, infrastructure delivery and network upgrade work. The contracts include renewals and extensions with Watercare Services, Logan City Council and Invercargill City Council, as well as a new delivery services panel with New Zealand energy distributor Vector.
