Hi, this is Real Quick! The newsletter within a newsletter where I share mini-reviews of all of the books I'm reading, movies I'm watching, and TV shows that are on in the background while I'm playing Stardew Valley Palia. You can (or cannot, I’m not the boss of you) read the most recent review below: The Ministry of Time, Kaliane Bradley ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I thought this book was going to be one thing, but it turned out to be another thing, and you know what?

always be moving
If you know me, you know that I can’t stay in one place for very long. The longest I’ve lived anywhere—at least since leaving home for college—is a little over two years. Two years in any given apartment for the almost 10 years I lived in Brooklyn; two years in any given city since I left there. It is unhinged, and frankly, the situation has gotten unbearable. I’m tired of moving. I’m tired of having no sense of permanence.

the time (last month) when i convinced myself i was going blind
I’m sitting in the waiting room at the retina specialist, waiting for my doctor to spare me five minutes of her time, to shine lights into my eyeballs at every possible angle. Whenever she does, I can see each and every vein—it’s weird to see with your eyes what’s in your eyes. Creepy.
someone touched my hair at a wedding again, lol
It’s been a while since a white man touched my hair at someone’s wedding, but I’m absolutely thrilled to report the nearly 10-year streak is over. My younger self could have never dreamed of still being the victim of such a wandering hand in my late-mid-30s. And yet there I was, minding my business, drinking my wine, micro dosing disassociation, when the to-be-groom placed his entire palm on my skull and started kneading.
hahahahah i'm back oops
Remember when I said SPIRAL was coming back and I promised a podcast and I was overly hopeful about my capabilities, remember? I meant it at the time, I swear. I chatted with Jin, aka LumiJin—an angel baby and literally the only friend I made in LA—for one to three hours, talking about her music process and all the things she was spiraling about, and honestly it was great. Hearing my laugh recorded and played back to me was less great, but I digress.
