The LMS10000 project has taken another significant step forward when the underframe of the Class 58 diesel locomotive being used as a chassis for 10000 was cleaned and painted red. Lines have been marked out on the freshly painted frame that show the modifications required to adapt the underframe to the distinctive shape of 10000. A white wooden mockup of an adapter plate required to match the Class 58 frame to bogies from a former Class locomotive EM2 was also fitted to the underframe.
MP visits Siemens maintenance depot in West Sussex
Luke Taylor, Member of Parliament for Sutton and Cheam, and Liberal Democrat Frontbench Spokesperson for London, recently visited Siemens Mobility’s Three Bridges Depot in West Sussex. During his visit, Luke was shown how Siemens carries out the maintenance and servicing of Thameslink’s 115-strong Class 700 fleet, which operates Thameslink services across London and Southeast England.

Trainline, Domino’s and Lumo have teamed up to offer a first-of-its-kind offering this Bank Holiday Weekend. The Train Thru delivery service will see Lumo passengers be able to order their favourite pizza direct to their train seat. Lumo says that 63% of train travellers have wanted to have a hot takeaway delivered to their seat. 35% have admitted to ordering takeaway for delivery, though only 20% managed a successful collection.
Steam locomotive 4110 set for Somerset visit
The West Somerset Railway has announced its third guest for its Autumn Steam Weekend, set to take place between the 25th and 27th September 2026. GWR Large Prairie No. 4110 will visit for the weekend thanks to the Dartmouth Steam Railway. 4110 was allocated to Taunton loco shed between 1962 and 1963, with its duties involving the Minehead branchline. 4110 joins No. 41313 (from the Isle of Wight Steam Railway) as well as resident locos for an intensive weekend of trains.
London Overground line to be closed as work takes place
Overhead line work between Bethnal Green and Cheshunt / Enfield Town means that London Overground Weaver Line services will be affected on two weekends in September. Greater Anglia services via Seven Sisters will be affected by the work when it is completed on the 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th September 2026. Worn-out track between Turkey Street and Theobalds Grove will also be replaced during the work.
London trains set to be ‘significantly’ reduced this Bank Holiday
East Midlands Railway is urging passengers to check before travelling this weekend, as the RMT Union carry out strike action. Passengers are being advised to only travel if absolutely necessary on Sunday 30th and Monday 31st August. The strike action is also taking place alongside engineering work on the East Coast Main Line, with LNER services not running to their usual timetable either.
Return journey over full length of heritage line for just £10
A special bonus awaits visitors to the Llangollen and Corwen Railway in September when they can take a return journey along the full length of the line for just £15. The September Steam Special will run on Friday, 18th September, and depart from Llangollen at 3 pm. It will make a return journey to Corwen, stopping on the way at Berwyn, Glyndyfrdwy, and Carrog.
BBC Radio presenter becomes Northern train conductor
A former BBC radio presenter has found a new vocation that has given her a ‘new lease of life’ after training to become a train driver. In 2024, former journalist and radio presenter Alex Worsick decided to switch careers and apply to become a train driver after working for the BBC for 22 years.
Hull Festival: FREE train travel available!
Hull Trains is offering free travel from a number of destinations to the Freedom Festival being held in the city in September to bring more people to the city’s cultural celebration. Freedom Festival is a major arts festival being held in the city from Thursday, 3rd to Sunday, 6th September.
Welsh railway to launch Santa Specials with a big bang
The Llangollen and Corwen Railway in North Wales will launch this year’s festive season with a literal ‘big bang’ from a bluecoat band. This year, the railway’s Santa Specials will have a rousing send-off from the City of Chester Bluecoat Band from 11.30 am on Saturday, 28th of November, and then run daily to Christmas Eve.
