Laurie O’Connel has been working in games for six years, and in that time, he noticed the same things that Rascal noticed when we first decided to start our publication. There was a dearth of places where writers could hone their critical writing skills,  where writing about tabletop roleplaying games was taken seriously, and where a desire to showcase how far the art form has come in the past half a century could be fostered. So, he decided to do something about it.

The workers behind Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering (Studio X) have announced they are unionizing as part of United Wizards of the Coast-CWA. According to the worker’s statement, “We have achieved a public supermajority of employees committed to our cause and are offering the opportunity for Wizards of the Coast (WOTC) and Hasbro to demonstrate their stated values by voluntarily recognizing our union.” They join the team on Magic the Gathering: Arena at the same union.

Despite being one of the preeminent fantasy cartographers in the world, Italian artist Francesca Baerald flies under the radar for a lot of the game-playing public. Video game enthusiasts might recognize her map of Diablo IV for Blizzard or for Square Enix on Octopath Traveler 2. Dark Horse regularly turn her work into fine art prints or puzzles — like her renditions of Thedas from Dragon Age or the world of Horizon Forbidden West.
