Google is about to release a new artificial intelligence (AI) model they are calling Gemini 4 Argon. The rise of an ever-increasing number of these products has caused concern across the political spectrum, and now Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) are forming an unlikely alliance, proposing a bill to make AI companies legally liable for any hacking incidents. Also, recently OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, according to Sen.

The U.S. Senate has officially recessed until after the November midterm elections. The body's last gasp act was the confirmation vote for Acting Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling to take on the mantle as Secretary of Labor. The Senate Republican majority pulled through. There's an old saying in politics: "It took a Carter to bring us a Reagan." Some of us have been kicking around long enough to remember the Nixon/Ford/Carter years, and the combination of inflation, low growth and high unemployment that came with those years, in the mid to late 1970s. There was a term for it — stagflation — and it did the economy a lot of damage, damage that frankly both political parties tried to fix with things like wage and price controls.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has reportedly stopped an attack planned for Oct. 1 on the Texas State Capitol in Austin. According to the DPS, it investigated the incident, working with the FBI, and then arrested 40-year-old Benny Caldera, Jr. in Converse, Texas. But what he allegedly said is the kicker.

In a new interview with TIME, President Trump made his case for the continuing Iran war by arguing that the rogue nation's annihilation will lead to peace. The conversation, which took place on September 28 at the White House, was published Thursday. Asked how his pitch as a president of peace reconciles with talk about annihilating an entire nation, Trump did not hedge. "Because by annihilating Iran, we've created peace in the world," he explained.

The would-be terrorist who attempted to take over a FlyDubai airliner earlier in the week, presumably with intent to crash it, is now in Israel. He's being interrogated, and we suspect, none too gently. In an interview on the Fox News morning program, Fox & Friends, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated one thing they have learned: The co-pilot who attempted the takeover had undergone Islamic radical indoctrination and terrorist training. Not terribly surprising.

When I first watched football on television with my father a very long time ago, it was a grainy black-and-white image on a screen about the size of a dinner plate. If you missed a play or a fake or deke, too bad for you. Perhaps there would be a photo in the next day's newspaper. My father was an immigrant. He'd played rugby in Scotland. But he had studied the American game and pointed with a pencil, showing me what to watch for at each position.

I have to say that I have a lot of confidence that Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) will carry the day in Maine. I've felt that ever since I saw her opponent, Democrat Troy Jackson, and got a sense of his record. That was even before the story about having kids with his (second) cousin. I'm not sure you could pick a less inspiring guy than this character. He has all the bad leftist policies of Graham Platner, plus no charisma. The more he opens his mouth, the more convinced I become.
