Founded in 2006, Refresh Miami has served as the hub of Miami Tech for 15 years. As a 501c3 non-profit, our mission is to educate, inspire, connect and grow South Florida’s tech and startup ecosystem. As the oldest and largest tech & startup community in the state, Refresh Miami members get a front-row seat to learn from top-notch founders, innovators and technology professionals from across the country. They expand their skills through Refresh Miami’s in-depth educational workshops, read about who is scaling, exiting and relocation here through Refresh News, grow their teams through the Refresh Job Board, and learn about the resources available to them through Refresh’s Resource directories. By Kyra Gurney / University of Miami News Robotics researchers at the University of Miami College of Arts and Sciences have acquired a 140-pound, nearly six-foot-tall robot that looks and acts much like a human. The Fourier Intelligence GR-2 humanoid robot arrived at the University near the end of the spring semester, and the robotics team has been hard at work developing software that enables the humanoid to complete household tasks.

Alexa Rosario, who started her real estate career in 2013, built a platform to help heirs and real estate agents navigate the complexities of inherited properties. “We are in the real estate space but very specifically we serve families that are navigating inherited property,” she says of her company, Heirloom, which is headquartered in Davie.
Comp AI turns compliance headaches into a $34M Series A
Compliance software is not exactly known for moving fast. Comp AI, apparently, did not get the memo. The Miami-based startup has gone from its January 2025 founding to more than 1,000 customers, 15x year-over-year ARR growth, and now a $34 million Series A in less than two years. The round, announced today, was led by Coconut Grove-based Roo Capital and Grand Ventures.

Freebee’s journey started in 2012 with two University of Miami friends, six electric vehicles, and an idea: Let’s make it easier and more fun to get around Miami Beach. Fast forward to this year Freebee has more than 300 electric vehicles serving more than 50 municipalities, campuses and business districts throughout South Florida and beyond. Over the years, the Miami-based startup grew to deliver more than 2 million rides in 2025 and was on track to exceed that number this year.
Zèya zooms past 100,000 downloads, sets its sights on the next million
When Refresh Miami last caught up with Zèya, the Miami startup had just raised $2.45 million and crossed 40,000 downloads. Eight months later, that second number has more than doubled. Zèya has now passed 100,000 downloads, with between 12,000 and 15,000 monthly active users. And with more people swapping on the platform, founder and CEO Mehdi Taifi [pictured above] is turning his attention to a problem as old as bartering itself: finding two people who happen to want what the other has.
Grip is taking the guesswork out of shipping the cold stuff
For years, shipping perishable goods came with a costly rule of thumb: Send everything overnight, pack in as much coolant and insulation as possible, and hope for the best. Grip founder and CEO Juan Camilo Meisel thinks brands can be far more precise. “This one box does require these four gel packs and this one service, but this other box, you can actually get away with two gel packs and this other shipment service that’s cheaper,” Meisel [pictured above] told Refresh Miami.
