WEST ALEXANDRIA — A longtime mayor, business owner, Sunday school teacher and community volunteer whose service touched nearly every corner of West Alexandria will be among six people inducted into the Sara Swartsel Hall of Honor this fall. EATON — Eaton Community Schools has announced its policy for free and reduced-price meals or free milk for students who are unable to pay the full price of meals or milk during the 2026-27 school year. The policy applies to meals or milk served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast programs, After School Care Snack Program or Special Milk Program. Copies of the policy are available for review by interested parties at each school office and the district’s central office.

My two youngest sons and I spent the first week in August at the Pickin’ in Parsons Music Festival in Parsons, West Virginia. It’s hard to believe this makes the sixth year we’ve been to the festival. We saw a gob of old friends, made some new friends, and missed some folks that we didn’t see this time around. I made a list of the occupations of some of the folks we have met there. Seeing how most of them are already retired, I guess I should say their occupations back in the day.
