September is when the cellar doors really start swinging. New vintages leave the barrel, mailing lists fire, and bottles that spent two or three years getting ready finally hit the market. Napa still owns the headlines—Insignia, Georges de Latour, Rubicon, Realm, Corison, PlumpJack—but the month is bigger than one valley. Oregon Pinot from Yamhill-Carlton, Ribbon Ridge, Dundee Hills, and Eola-Amity is landing at the same time.

Caprese Farro Salad
With juicy sweet tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and hearty farro tossed with a light white balsamic vinaigrette, this Caprese Farro Salad is one of my very favorite grain salads. It’s super simple to make and great for preparing ahead of time.

Total wine volume declined 4.5% to 315.7 million 9-liter cases in 2025, according to the 2026 Wine Handbook, published by the Beverage Information Group. That amounts to a loss of 14.9 million cases from the prior year and the category’s fourth consecutive annual decline.

The whiskey meets the requirements of the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897, which requires whiskey to come from a single distiller and distillery during one distilling season, age for at least four years and enter the bottle at 100 proof.
Make it Sourdough
By Laura Crandall With a little math and a lot of patience, almost any yeasted recipe becomes yours to reinvent. One of the questions we hear most often in our test kitchen goes something like this: “I love this recipe, but it calls for dry yeast. Can I make it with my sourdough starter instead?” It’s a great question, and the honest answer is a little complicated, so let’s take our time and break it down. Commercial dried yeast is wonderfully dependable—that’s exactly why we reach for it so often.

MGP Ingredients, Inc. has launched MGP, its first spirits brand to carry the company’s name. The brand’s first release, MGP Chapter One: Out of the Shadows, is a 10-year-old straight bourbon whiskey bottled at 111 proof. The company said the release marks the first time consumers can purchase a whiskey under the MGP name. MGP has produced whiskey and other spirits for hundreds of brands.
Trump Announces Ban on Canadian Alcohol Imports, Escalating Trade Conflict
On Tuesday, president Donald Trump announced a plan to ban import of a range of Canadian products, escalating the already tense tariff disputes between the U.S. and its neighbor to the north. The restrictions — which are set to go into effect on Sept. 29 — will encompass alcoholic beverages including wine, spirits, malt beer as well as dairy products and motor parts. The latest in the ongoing tariff tug-of-war, this proclamation came amid a growing trade conflict between the two countries.
