Naturopathy-based treatment for violence and conduct disorders
People diagnosed with reactive suicidal and homicidal violent conduct disorders exhibit aggressive behavioural tendencies, and some violent men and women are deemed untreatable. Marian Mulligan from Dublin CEO Sphenoid/IINM developed a neurological structural alignment programme in the treatment of violence in high-security prisons. The UK government home office advisory body researched and evaluated the regime implemented with a team of 200 expert natural medics.
Pulsars and prizes: The life and work of Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell
Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell is an astrophysicist who discovered the first radio pulsars during her post-graduate research in 1967. She is only the second woman in history to receive the Royal Society’s prestigious award, the Copley Medal (2021) for her sustained outstanding achievements in astronomy. In 2018 she was awarded the (£2.3 million) Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics which she donated to advance opportunities for women and other under-represented groups in science.
Flora-friendly fungi
Fungi form a unique kingdom of organisms and are fundamental for life on this planet. Plants encounter many fungi, and adapt to survive or perish when fungal pathogens attack them. Several types of fungi also help plants to absorb soil nutrients better, ward off pathogens, survive environmental stresses, and decompose plants to provide nutrients for more plant growth. Fungi are present in every aspect of a plant’s life. Plants have close encounters with fungi throughout their lives.

How can we use seismic tomography to understand volcanic degassing?
The islands of Vulcano and Lipari are part of a volcanic archipelago, named Aeolian Islands, in Southern Italy. A major degassing crisis recently occurred, causing the temporary evacuation of some sectors of Vulcano Island. Geophysicists can use the seismic waves from crustal local earthquakes to create a picture of the underground volcanic system. Dr Cristina Totaro and the geophysics team of the University of Messina identified a gas anomaly beneath Vulcano that is driving degassing activity.
