RIT Magic Spell Studios helps teen with nervous system disorder build video game
HENRIETTA, N.Y. — Make-A-Wish teamed up with Rochester Institute of Technology’s Magic Spell Studios to grant 19-year-old Caleb Pixley’s wish to create a video game. News10NBC’s Declan Stablow was at RIT as Pixley’s friends and family gathered to play his game, “The Maw.” Pixley lives with a nervous system disorder, and Make-A-Wish says it took months of work to make his wish come true. Pixley was able to work side by side with RIT developers who have experience building games like his.
Janet Lomax, Richard McCollough, honored at RABJ lifetime achievement awards
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Two Rochester broadcast veterans received lifetime achievement awards at the Rochester Association of Black Journalists (RABJ) honors event on Saturday night. RABJ honored retired News10NBC anchor Janet Lomax and WDKX Chief Meteorologist Richard McCollough for their decades of impact in journalism. The event was held at the Memorial Art Gallery. Lomax was the first African American to anchor a weeknight newscast in Rochester.
ROC Game Fest 2026
Western New York's largest indie game festival is back! Returning to our usual hosting season of Fall, ROC Game Fest will be held on Saturday, September 26th. We will be featuring 50+ indie game and tabletop developers from WNY and across the state. Like previous years, attendance is free and open to the public. We will have a food truck on location from 11-5pm and parking in Lots E and F. Parental guidance is suggested for children as game ratings range from E to M.

RIT president says next build is strengthening people and programs
For several years, construction cranes were part of Rochester Institute of Technology’s skyline, proof that new buildings were a sign of growth. “Now, another important building project is ahead of us. This time, we’re strengthening and supporting the people and programs of the university itself,” said RIT President Bill Sanders during his State of the University address Sept. 10 in the RIT Performing Arts Center.

Good afternoon, fellow Tigers! Welcome to the beginning of another academic year. I can’t believe that it has been more than a year since I joined you. I’m still as optimistic as my first day, and I can tell you that the more I learn about RIT and the Rochester community, the more I know that I have found a home here. This has been a memorable first year for Emily and me.
