New York – Today, the Delaware Riverkeeper Network and Riverkeeper filed an Endangered Species Act (ESA) lawsuit to force New York to address the illegal capture and killing of endangered Atlantic sturgeon by commercial fishing operations. Parallel lawsuits were also filed by the two groups against Delaware and New Jersey. Atlantic sturgeon in the Delaware River and Hudson River were listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act in 2012.

Urge EPA to adopt a robust and thorough cleanup plan for Newtown Creek's East Branch The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is overseeing the cleanup and remediation of New York City’s Newtown Creek, a federally listed Superfund site. Newtown Creek is a 3.8 mile long, highly contaminated waterway that borders Brooklyn and Queens, empties into the East River and has five tributaries, including the East Branch.

The Walsh Road Bridge (adjacent to the tree planting site) is under construction and you will only be able to get there from a certain direction, a portion of the road is entirely closed.

This tour will take us south of Storm King Mountain and across the river toward Breakneck Ridge. We then follow the East side of the river to the sandy shores of Little Stony Point Park. Round trip paddling distance is approximately 4.7 miles. Storm King Adventures will provide kayak, paddle, and life jacket as well as instruction before you hit the water.
