Instead, it marks the twelfth year of the Name our Storms campaign, designed to raise awareness of severe weather through consistent, authoritative messaging.

Today, the Royal Meteorological Society announced the launch of the new RMetS Member Portal – an exclusive online destination bringing together expert views, commentary, and knowledge from across the weather and climate community. Created as a new benefit of RMetS membership, the Member Portal provides members with access to a growing collection of original articles, interviews, analysis, and resources exploring weather and climate from a range of perspectives.

Nearly 20 years later, he has taken a look back at his experience and rather than stick to a chronological sequence of events, has written this compelling and insightful account from the perspective of our senses (scent, taste, sight, touch and sound).

The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) welcomes the Natural History GCSE proposed subject content as a qualification that is uniquely placed to foster young people’s engagement with an appreciation of the natural world. In particular, we support that the subject is designed to ‘complement study of biology and geography GCSEs’. However, we suggest this could be broadened to ‘science’ rather than simply ‘biology’, as, for example, some students will be taking double award science.

The deadline is approaching fast for photographers of all abilities to enter the world’s favourite weather photography competition. Submissions for the Royal Meteorological Society’s (RMetS) Weather Photographer of the Year 2026 close on 20 August 2026. Now in its second decade, the free-to-enter global competition is issuing a final call for striking images that capture the power, beauty, and impact of weather and climate.

Arundhati shares how the RMetS Legacies fund supported her in-person attendance at the RMetS Early Career and Student Conference and RMetS Annual Weather and Climate Conference in Exeter I am extremely grateful to have received a generous grant from the RMetS Legacies Fund to support my in-person attendance at the RMetS Early Career and Student Conference and RMetS Annual Weather and Climate Conference in Exeter from July 6–10, 2026.

David Bowker reflects on how support from the RMetS Legacies Fund enabled him to attend and present his research at the RMetS Annual Weather and Climate Conference. Through the grant made from the legacies fund, I was able to attend the Weather and Climate Conference at Exeter University from 08 to 10 July and present my paper on ‘Changes in the Nature of Arctic Maritime Air’ (presented in the morning session for the Climate group on Thursday 09 July).
