Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh - United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, reaffirming their commitment to Rohingya repatriation while urgently calling for solutions to the growing aid crisis. Their visit comes at a time when funding shortages and instability in Myanmar have left nearly one million Rohingya refugees in an increasingly dire situation.

Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh – In a powerful display of solidarity, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will join thousands of Rohingya refugees for a special iftar gathering in Cox’s Bazar today. Their visit comes at a time of growing concerns over deteriorating conditions in both the refugee camps and Myanmar’s Rakhine State, where escalating violence has forced thousands more to flee.

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has issued a critical update regarding the food assistance for over one million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, highlighting an urgent funding gap that could severely impact their survival. Starting from April 1, 2025, the food vouchers for all Rohingya refugees in both Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char will be reduced, with ration amounts now equalized between the two regions, despite Bhasan Char previously receiving higher food support than Cox’s Bazar.

By Mohammed Zonaid and Mohammed Faruque Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh – The world’s largest refugee settlement is on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe as the World Food Programme (WFP) announces yet another drastic cut in food aid for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. Beginning April 1, 2025, monthly food vouchers—already reduced multiple times in recent years—will be slashed from $12.50 to just $6 per person due to severe funding shortages.

In a joint press statement released on January 7, the European Union, alongside the governments of the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Switzerland, Timor-Leste, and the United Kingdom, expressed profound concern over the deteriorating human rights and humanitarian situation in Myanmar, with particular emphasis on the ongoing crisis in Rakhine State affecting the Rohingya population and other communities.
