On behalf of Roscommon County Council, we would like to warmly invite members of the Community Integration Forum to attend an upcoming talk entitled “Understanding Migration: Data, Displacement and the Human Experience.” This two-part talk will take place on Thursday, 11 June at 11:00 a.m. in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon Town, and will feature guest speakers Penelope Muteteli and Kiere Murphy.

Minister for Rural, Community and Gaeltacht Affairs Dara Calleary T.D. was in County Roscommon yesterday, Thursday June 11th where he visited the recently upgraded Castlerea Swimming Pool and the provision of a lift at the nearby Hub facility. Both projects have been funded under Community Recognition Fund and Clar funding respectively.

Roscommon County Council is seeking expressions of interest from community groups for funding suitable projects under the 2026/2027 Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) funded by the Department of Rural & Community Development and the Gaeltacht. The focus of ORIS is to support outdoor recreational infrastructure in countryside areas that not only provides an outlet for the communities in which they are situated, but also delivers added value from a tourism perspective.

Minister for Rural, Community and Gaeltacht Affairs Dara Calleary visited Ballaghaderreen yesterday Friday, June 11th where he officially reopened the town’s refurbished branch library, located in Dillon House. The new renovated library now includes a large, dedicated children’s section with increased seating areas with a new dedicated area for teenagers with a large collection of manga and graphic novels.

Temporary Traffic Management for the Athlone Operational Area from Wednesday 24th June 2026 to Tuesday 07th July 2026. I wish to inform you that from Wednesday 24th June 2026 to Tuesday 07th July 2026, Murphy International Limited, will carry road resurfacing works within the Athlone Operational Area. The works will take place on the following roads: R446 & L-2027 at Crannagh, Monksland, Athlone, Co. Roscommon. A traffic management system will be in operation for the duration of the works.

Further improvement for Roscommon in latest IBAL report The latest IBAL (Irish Business Against Litter) results has revealed Roscommon town has improved its ranking in the latest survey results announced today (Mon. June 8th). The county town is now ranked tenth out of forty towns and cities surveyed and is classified as ‘clean to European Norms.’ Today’s result represents an excellent result for Roscommon, with seven out of the ten sites surveyed getting the top litter grade.

Pursuant to Section 58 of the Planning and Development Act 2024 (as amended) Roscommon County Council has prepared a Proposed Variation (Proposed Variation No.1) to theRoscommon County Development Plan 2022 – 2028. This Proposed Variation No. 1 is primarily in response to ‘The National Planning Framework - First Revision 2025’ and the ‘NPF Implementation – Housing Growth Requirements’ (Section 28 Guidelines).

Marking the start of the of the Irish EU Presidency, which begins today (Wed. July 1st), both the Irish and EU flags were raised at the offices of Roscommon County Council by the Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Cllr. Domnick Connolly, accompanied by County Librarian, Sandra Turner. For six months, Ireland will guide negotiations, broker agreement between Member States, and help deliver EU laws and policies that affect the daily lives of more than 450 million people.
