On Saturday night, July 25th Robert Newman was helping fight a wildfire north of Ingomar, Montana, when rapidly changing winds caused the fire to turn unexpectedly. Thanks to the heroic action’s of Travis Good, Robert’s life was saved, but he suffered severe burn injuries. Robert was airlifted to the University of Utah Burn Center, where he is currently in the Burn ICU. He is intubated and receiving around-the-clock care from an incredible team of doctors and nurses.
County Business
The Musselshell County Commissioners met on Friday, August 7, 2026 for their weekly meeting. There was no public comment to start the day. County resolution 2026-21 was tabled. Federal law states that the mileage for business is now 76 cents per mile. This rate change was approved and was effective 7-1-26. Musselshell County treasurer presented the monthly balancing report. Montana Department of Revenue presented a report. It was stated that there was not a huge change in values.
Marlene Newman Rule

Quite cool for a cowgirl from south east Montana!!! Marlene Newman Rule, daughter of legendary Albert and Jean Newman of Ingomar.
Constitution Roadshow-Winnett
Aug 14, 2026 Ralph T. Corbett and Carol Ann Schaeffer The Military Vehicle Preservation Association 2026 Lewis & Clark Convoy left Bismarck, North Dakota, on July 28th. They are stopping in many towns along their way to Fort Stevens, Oregon. On July 31st they headed out of Jordan and took a side trip to the Bliss Ranch to see their collection of military vehicles. They proceeded to Sand Springs for another stop before rolling on to Winnett.
Governor, and First Lady to Honor Musselshell County Veterans in Roundup
Aug 14, 2026 Governor Gianforte and the First Lady of Montana will visit Roundup on August 20, 2026, to present the 2025 Montana Governor’s Veteran Commendation to two recipients from Musselshell County. The ceremony will be held at the Musselshell County Veterans War Memorial at the south end of Main Street tentatively at 11:15 AM. The commendation will be presented to Musselshell Valley V.F.W. Post 4925 former Commander Billy Don Turner and present Commander Ron Carson.
Help Amalya Recover from Her ATV Accident
A 5-year-old Billings girl is fighting to recover after an ATV crashed and landed on top of her on August 1st. Hayley Pierce says her daughter Amalya has a broken back and ribs, and cannot move. Pierce has organized a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses. Per the GoFundMe: “My little girl, who just days ago was running, laughing, and full of life, is now in so much pain. She doesn't understand why she can't move and has to lie flat and stay still.

Dinosaurs of Petroleum County
Aug 14, 2026 On August 8th at the Petroleum County Community Center, Alex Hastings, Ph. D., presented a slide show about the Science Museum of Minnesota's dinosaur dig in Petroleum County. It covered some general background on dinosaurs. It continued with the beginning of the local dig and covered the various discoveries through this year. Those species found include Triceratops, Edmontosaurus, a duck-billed dinosaur, and an ornithomimid, an ostrich-like dinosaur.
