Haryana Gets Minority Commission: Governor Approves Act, Panel to Have Civil Court-Like Powers Chandigarh, Oct 8: Haryana will set up a State Minority Commission to monitor the interests of minorities and take up matters related to their rights. Governor Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh has given his assent to the State Minority Commission Act. The commission will have a chairperson, a vice chairperson, and five non-official members. The government can increase or reduce the number of members as needed.

Kangra: Accused Arrested Within 10 Hours of Idol Vandalism at Jwalamukhi's Shani Dev Temple Kangra, Oct 8: Police arrested an accused within about 10 hours in the case of vandalised idols of Shani Dev and Bhairav Baba at the Shani Dev temple in Ganesh Colony, Jwalamukhi. During preliminary questioning, the accused confessed that he had smashed the idols in anger after a quarrel at home while he was drunk. Police are now probing other angles and possible involvement of others.

Earthquake of 4.9 Magnitude Shakes Uttarakhand, Panic as People Run Out of Homes Tremors were felt in eight districts of Uttarakhand. The affected districts include Chamoli, Champawat, Bageshwar, Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Pithoragarh, and Tehri. The earthquake struck at around 10:23 pm, shaking several areas and sending panicked residents out of their homes.
