The symposium will consist of plenary lectures and invited talks, contributed presentations, and poster sessions covering a wide range of topics spanning the research area of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Nanoscience plays a key role in the development of advanced materials  and is at the core of many emerging technologies for energy, environmental and health care applications.

Imagine trying to shake a friend’s left hand with your own right hand – it wouldn’t be a very good fit. Similarly, some molecules can be left or right-handed. Although these are mirror images – the chemistry term is enantiomers, or chiral molecules – they can interact completely differently with other molecules found in nature. This phenomenon can be incredibly important in the pharmaceutical, agricultural and other chemical industries.

Introduction Under the banner of our flagship diamond open access journal, Chemical Science, we’ll be shining a spotlight on cutting-edge chemistry research and giving it the sort of attention that drives scientific progress and makes a difference. This meeting is the next iteration in the Chemical Science symposia series hosted by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

The Analytical Science Community has its origins in the Society for Analytical Chemistry, the name adopted in 1954 for the body that began its existence in 1874 as the Society of Public Analysts. When the Society for Analytical Chemistry and Chemical Society amalgamated in 1972, the Society for Analytical Chemistry became the Analytical Division of the new Chemical Society, which went on to become the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1980 when it was granted a new Royal Charter.

Overloaded curriculums bursting at the seams limit hands-on practicals ‘Let’s get rid of the solar system entirely – I don’t think we need it!’ Laughter and murmurs of agreement met this semi-serious suggestion, made by professor of science education Christine Harrison at the Association of Science Education’s 2025 conference, where teachers and technicians examined why we’re doing fewer experiments in schools.
