NEW YORK CITY - The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) was awarded $7,461,000 to advance the planning and preliminary design to eliminate three grade crossings along LIRR's Ronkonkoma Branch. The three crossings are the Wicks Rd/Fifth Avenue grade crossing in Brentwood, the Straight Path crossing in Wyandanch, and the Lowell Avenue crossing in Central Islip, says the MTA. The crossing in Brentwood is reportedly one of the top five busiest crossings on Long Island.

Construction on the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension. TORONTO - Construction on four underground stations along the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension has started. According to Metrolinx, the future station sites are at the Martin Grove, Kipling, Islington, and Royal York intersections. Crews have begun excavating these sites, digging out space for station boxes.
CSX’s Radnor Yard in Nashville Receives Additional Power-Operated Switches
NASHVILLE –– Radnor Yard, a critical hub in the southeastern CSX network, is receiving additional power-operated switches. CSX has announced that it is “advancing a major infrastructure upgrade” at Radnor Yard in Nashville, Tenn. The railroad is installing additional, new, power-operated switches in the north end of the receiving yard that will be controlled by the Yardmaster.

Funds Secured for Forest Park Branch Track Design Work

CHICAGO - The Chicago Transit Board authorized an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the Illinois Department of Transportation for funding for the future Forest Park Branch track design work. According to the CTA, the funds will allow it to move forward with redesigning and building more than 13 miles of track and drainage system along the Forest Park Branch.
