The past year has been a challenging one for Ryerson faculty and staff but April 7 marked a time to celebrate, as the Employee Awards were livestreamed on YouTube. The awards celebrate excellence in the areas of research, administration, service and leadership as part of Ryerson’s recognition and awards. This year, 62 individuals and six teams were honoured, and President and Vice-Chancellor Mohamed Lachemi congratulated all recipients in his opening remarks.

Ryerson Professional Music student at The Creative School Ashley Sienna, 18, has always loved to sing. So, when the pandemic hit, it’s no surprise that that’s what she turned to. “Sometimes, I would stream up to five hours a day,” she said, referring to the platform Sessions, where she would perform live for people all over the world - from her room. And if she wasn’t singing - she was writing.
For longtime donor, Donette Chin-Loy Chang, supporting student nurses was an opportunity for her to say thank you. “When my husband Ray became ill, we were at Princess Margaret Hospital. 8 out of 10 nurses were Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing (DCSN) graduates. They were all so lovely. One nurse told us ‘Mr. Chang’ handed her the diploma on stage at convocation but was shy to mention it, as she had not wanted to infringe on our privacy.
