It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Andrew Leckey, an accomplished business journalist, author, educator and longtime member of SABEW’s Board of Governors. Andrew’s distinguished career spanned journalism, broadcasting and higher education. He worked at the Chicago Tribune, Channel 7 in Chicago and CNBC in New York before turning his focus to educating the next generation of business journalists.

Event Schedule The SABEW Personal Finance Summit — co-sponsored by the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) and the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE)(opens in new tab) — helps journalists uncover the personal finance angles that make stories more relevant and useful to audiences. Through expert-led sessions and practical discussions, journalists of all backgrounds and beats will gain new story ideas, trusted sources and actionable reporting techniques.

July 1, 2026 Love of country and love of press freedom go hand in hand. As SABEW’s First Amendment Committee celebrates the United States’ 250th Anniversary, we are reminded of the importance of speaking out against any threats to the pillars of democracy that allow us to do what we do. Recently, the Department of Justice subpoenaed national security reporters from The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal and sought their testimony before a grand jury.

The Canadian chapter of the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) announced the winners of its 12th annual Best in Business Awards on Thursday evening at an event in Toronto. Bloomberg News and the Toronto Star each earned two gold awards and two silvers. Other winners included The Logic, CBC, Reuters and Canadian Lawyer.

Four Governors elected to the SABEW Board Robert Barba, politics editor at WNYC/Gothamist, was installed as the new president of the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) during its annual conference on May 9 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City. “SABEW and its members have inspired me and propelled my career, and I’m honored to lead the organization at such a critical moment,” said Barba.

Desiree Hanford, professor and director of academic integrity and appeals at Medill/Northwestern University, longtime member and past president of the Board of Governors at the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing, was presented with the organization’s President’s Award at its annual conference, #SABEW26, held at the DoubleTree Philadelphia Center City.
