Members of the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) band together in the individual and collective pursuit of the highest standards of economic journalism. The organization recognizes that economic freedom is inextricably linked to political freedom and that an informed citizenry can ensure these freedoms are sustained. It is SABEW’s mission as an independent, non-profit organization to encourage comprehensive reporting of economic events without fear or favoritism and to increase members’ skills and knowledge through continuous education. SABEW Canada announces winners of 2025 Best in Business Awards
The Canadian chapter of the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) announced the winners of its 12th annual Best in Business Awards on Thursday evening at an event in Toronto. Photos from the event by Grow Digital can be found here. The Globe and Mail led all outlets with seven gold awards and five silvers. Bloomberg News and the Toronto Star each earned two gold awards and two silvers. Other winners included The Logic, CBC, Reuters and Canadian Lawyer.

Four Governors elected to the SABEW Board Robert Barba, politics editor at WNYC/Gothamist, was installed as the new president of the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) during its annual conference on May 9 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Philadelphia Center City. “SABEW and its members have inspired me and propelled my career, and I’m honored to lead the organization at such a critical moment,” said Barba.
Desiree Hanford receives SABEW President’s Award at #SABEW26
Desiree Hanford, professor and director of academic integrity and appeals at Medill/Northwestern University, longtime member and past president of the Board of Governors at the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing, was presented with the organization’s President’s Award at its annual conference, #SABEW26, held at the DoubleTree Philadelphia Center City.
Finalists Announced for SABEW Canada’s Best in Business Awards
The Canadian chapter of the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing (SABEW) today announced the finalists for its 12th annual Best in Business Awards competition, recognizing outstanding Canadian business reporting published and produced in 2025. The Canada Best in Business Awards received 226 entries. The awards are made possible by the individuals and organizations who submitted entries, and all the judges who volunteered their time to support excellence in business journalism.
2026 Board of Governors Election
Voting for the SABEW Board of Governors opens Friday, May 1, and closes at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, May 8. Voting members will receive your ballot information direct from the online voting service provider Opavote.org. If you are the voting member for your newsroom and also have an individual membership, you will receive two separate emails. If your newsroom voting representation has changed, please contact . Ballots will be cast for four open seats with three-year terms ending in ending in 2029.
