Sailing Anarchy
VerifiedOnline/Digital
The currently available sailing publications and web sites are often filled with stories that are something less than insightful. Oh sure you can read from some expert on how to win every race that you’ve ever entered, but the real stories about people and events in this sport are either ignored or whitewashed. When was the last time your read an Editorial that didn’t put you to sleep? Many boat reviews are nothing more than politically correct spin to ensure the advertising revenue is not jeopardized. It’s time to change all that. Sailing Anarchy will present topics, ideas and, critiques that have never been written about before. Anywhere. Source

After 19 years in publication, Sailing Anarchy has remained true to its roots as a community oriented, edgy sailing publisher. We have long been, and will continue to be, the leader in providing inside stories, great reports from around the globe, along with the informative, snarky, profane coverage that you have come to expect. Others come and go, dilly dally with bullshit, while we remain Anarchists to the core.
gotta be in it to winning it
Ignoring Sandy Oatley’s aborted attempt to challenge for the 34th America’s Cup, it’s been a 26 years since our Australian friends have challenged for the top trophy in sailing, and today, Sydney’s Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club announced that spell is now over! Underwriting the Australian challenge for the 38th Cup is a true sailor’s sailor and Sydney Harbor sailing royalty – John Winning, Jr. – who currently sits in 10th place at the Etchells Worlds while his yacht club rings in a new era...
slaughter patrol
US Virgin Island cruiser and rocker Shawn Leass was run down and killed by a US Customs & Border Patrol boat inside Haulover Cut on the South shore of St. Thomas last weekend, and the government won’t even say his name. More from the Loose Cannon substack: According to the St. Thomas Source news outlet, Leass had come to the USVI about 25 years ago, initially living aboard his Erickson 36 Freya. He was killed while piloting his dinghy after having left St. Thomas Carnival on its last night.
slingin’ it
Tom Slingsby always marches to the beat of his own drum, and that drum is beating the brakes off the rest of the SailGP fleet right about now. Slingers ran away with the Bermuda victory this weekend and leads the standings by 10 points over Dylan Fletcher’s UK team after four events in what may end up to be a war-truncated season. Team USA’s Taylor Canfield started strong again but folded fast during a weekend that left Glenn Ashby with a broken leg. Chat about it in the marathon thread here.
the right tool for the job?
“Is this the right boat for our program?” is perhaps the most common question we see from fleet/school managers. N00b “Matt Jacomb” asked the same. Answer him yourself in the Dinghy Anarchy thread. Photo thanks to SA’er “Stanno”. I work at a school and we teach sailing to our senior students. We have 6 ILCA’s that are a few decades old and in desperate need to replacement. Management and have approved a replacement plan.
You Don’t Want That Smoke
We still have no idea whether the upscaled America’s Cup foiler known as Ferrari Hypersail will ever do anything besides serve as a marketing vehicle for the world’s sexiest cars, but new livery drawings on their Instagram page it looks like the formerly Giovanni Soldini-helmed project is getting ready to do something.

Nothing Drives Like A Rental
Velocitek’s RTK technology may be the best new start-line tech in the business, but it ain’t for sale this year. If your event wants centimeter-level accuracy, you can rent it for $50 per day.* The 2026 Velocitek RTK Puck is available as a rental-only system at $50 per boat per day, making it easy for fleets to try centimeter-level accuracy without purchasing new hardware. Velocitek RTK isn’t just a more accurate GPS.
Roped In Again
Longtime Sailing Anarchy sponsor Marlow continues to put their money where their mouths are in support of the most important parts of our sport – in this case, college sailing. Marlow Ropes is pleased to announce the renewal of its status as Official Rope Supplier to the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) through 2027.
