From lawn ornament to vintage mooring candy, the 1986 Catalina 22 floats on its lines. My web browser knows perfectly well what I’ve been up to, and the algorithm is now screaming “Catalina 22” into my feed. This means that I’ve done something stupid and bought a boat. A project boat, nonetheless. So, yes—I’ve joined the club of wide-eyed, shallow-pocketed sailors who see an old boat on a trailer and think, “doesn’t look too bad.” And here we go.

Six days of racing at the home of the L.A. 2028 Olympics closed for the ILCA 6, ILCA 7, and 470 classes last week, with Great Britain’s Hannah Snellgrove, Australia’s Matt Wearn, and Brits Martin Wrigley and Bettine Harris taking the top spots in their fleets. With a new Final Series format that included 2 short high-intensity races for each class, San Pedro OCR concluded with tightly contested battles on the waters outside the Port of Los Angeles.
