Youth track and field: Sacred Heart girl competing on national level - Salisbury Post
Staff report Carsyn Turner, a 9-year-old rising fourth grader at Sacred Heart, is competing at a high level for her age group in track and field. Turner is a sprinter and a jumper. In the AAU National Club Championships held recently in Jacksonville, Fla., Turner long jumped 13 feet, 4.75 inches for third place in the 10U division. She also was a qualifier for 10U Nationals in the 100 meter and 200 meter sprints. She placed 13th in the 100 (14.18) and 17th in the 200 (28.91).
Local golf: Honeycutt wins tournament - Salisbury Post
Staff report GREENSBORO – Cam Honeycutt, a rising sophomore at East Rowan, shot 3-under 67 on Wednesday to win the Cardinal Junior Opener. He won the Drip Golf Tour event by one shot. It’s his third tour victory of the season. Honeycutt shot a 71 in the first round on Tuesday that included a hole-in-one. He was two shots off the pace, going into Wednesday’s round. Honeycutt had a double bogey on No. 1 on Wednesday. He made one birdie on the front side and made the turn at 36.
Local, state officials weigh in on new partisan, even-year Kannapolis City Council elections - Salisbury Post
KANNAPOLIS — The North Carolina State Senate passed a bill that will make Kannapolis City Council elections partisan and on even-numbered years. The measure was a last-minute addition encouraged by local officials. State Senator Carl Ford initially proposed Senate Bill 876 as a workaround for the Kannapolis extraterritorial jurisdiction relinquishment to give Rowan County more time to incorporate the area. The bill also included a change to the Rowan County commissioner replacement policy.

KANNAPOLIS — With new board and commission regulations passed, the City Council approved appointments across four boards. However, only one returning board member was not reappointed out of nine who applied, prompting some public commenters to ask the council for clarity before the vote. On July 13, the Kannapolis City Council heard a proposal for new board policies and the appointment of 16 members across four boards in the city.

Rowan Little League’s 8U softball team won 14-4 at home against Lake Norman in the state turnament championship game on Tuesday. The Rowan players are Madison Rhinier, Abigail Rhinier, Korie Brown, Lauren Ziegler, Lark Church, Riley Hearn, Zoey Houk, Lyla Reeves, Lexi Phillips, Eliana Olson, Raelyn Pearson and Harper Durham.
