Today I have been sober for 49 weeks. 343 days. I’ll keep this short this week. Sobriety is fine, and I can add nothing other than the standard day-to-day shit that I seem to be mentioning most weeks. So I’ll save you the effort. You can check out all those ramblings here if you’re new here. The above saying has been credited to the US Navy.
46 Weeks of Sobriety- Big Daddy
Today I have been sober for 46 weeks. 322 days. Sobriety is going… ok. I’ve had a couple of massive weeks. The week before last, I did 3,500 k’s for work and stayed away from home for four nights. I wrote about it already, but my routine seems to fly out the window when I work away. I get hyper-focused (ADHD trait) on punching the work out as quickly as possible to get home as quickly as possible.
41 Weeks of Sobriety- Setbacks
Today I am 41 weeks sober. 287 days. I went to my first music festival as a sober person on the weekend. Summer Salt is a small, relaxed festival that allows kids to attend. We thought it would be an excellent opportunity to do something as a family. Take a trip up to Wollongong, see some great live music, and take a bit of a break after a hecti…
38 Weeks of Sobriety- New Year, Real Me
Today I have been sober for 38 weeks. 266 Days. Have you ever had a wild thought excite you, only for another voice in your head to tell you to pull your head in? Maybe you were at your job that you don’t love and after a long day thought, “fuck this, I don’t want to do this shit anymore. I want to go and do something I care about”. You s… Keep reading with a 7-day free trial Subscribe to Sobering Thoughts to keep reading this post and get 7 days of free access to the full post archives.
37 weeks of Sobriety- How sobriety has taught me to slow down and take things one day at a time.
Today I have been sober for 37 weeks. 259 days. Welcome to the First Sobering Thoughts of 20-fuckin’-23! Well, that’s Christmas and New Year’s Eve done. It was much easier than I thought it would be. That said, I safeguarded myself pretty well. As I mentioned last week, Christmas was very low-key. New years was the same. When you have a four-mont…
2022- The hardest, worst, and best year of my life.
Never in my life have I had 12 months like the last 12 months. I have never been so far removed from the person I was 12 months ago. I’m far from complete, far from finished, in fact, I’m choosing to believe that in a lot of ways I’m only just at the beginning of a new and better life. I’m sitting in our second house, in a different city/town, on holiday…
36 Weeks of Sobriety- My Year in Sobriety, in Review
Today I have been sober for 36 weeks. 252 days. Well, I survived Christmas. For a lot of Australians, Christmas day is a day that starts with alcohol. It’s not uncommon for people to be drinking at 7 am on Christmas day in Australia. Fortunately, I had a small, low-key celebration with close family, so there weren’t a lot of risks there.
35 Weeks of Sobriety
Today I have been sober for 35 weeks. 245 days. Two days ago I passed the eight-month mark or two-thirds of a year. In a lot of ways, it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long. In other ways, it feels like I’m only just beginning…
33 Weeks of Sobriety
Today I have been sober for 33 weeks. 231 days. I don’t have a whole lot to add to my sobriety this week. Which is a good thing. I had a good week last week. So the fact that it doesn’t feel like a lot has changed is comforting. If last week had been a bad week and nothing had changed this week, then that would be bad. In fairness, I didn’t reall…
32 Weeks of Sobriety
Today, I have been sober for 32 weeks. 224 Days. Last week I wrote about how the upcoming festive season could challenge my sobriety. Whilst a lot of those fears remain, I feel like I made significant progress this week. On Saturday I went along to my big family Christmas party. My parents hold it each and every year on the last Saturday of Novemb…
