Illinois College's TJ Esseily was named the Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Sep. 8. Esseily, a senior goalkeeper from Lucerne, Switzerland, posted a shutout in Illinois College's opening match against Illinois Wesleyan. He recorded three saves to help the Blueboys secure a scoreless draw with the Titans. In his next appearance, Esseily contributed to a 3-1 win over Westminster by recording two saves.

Two former Williamsville High School athletes are on college rosters for the week ending September 6. Junior Carson Conklin is listed with Elmhurst men's golf; the team hosts the Highland Classic on September 6. The sports represented are women's soccer and men's golf, with Illinois-Springfield and Elmhurst the colleges listed. The teams have three scheduled events during the week ending September 6. The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy and Metric Media LLC filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against Greenview Community Unit School District 200 in Menard County Circuit Court, seeking the district's records on religious-accommodation policies, including accommodations related to Ramadan observance. The suit was filed Aug. 3 in the Circuit Court of the Eighth Judicial Circuit, Menard County, Chancery Division, according to court records (Case No. 2026CH2).

Four former Rochester High School athletes appear on college rosters for the week ending Sept. 6. Junior Eleanor Gegen is with Vassar's women's volleyball team. The represented sports are women's volleyball, women's soccer and cross country. Ball State, Illinois-Springfield and Vassar are represented. Illinois College's Shelby Seiler finished in the top 20 to lead the Lady Blues to a team top-10 finish at the Highland Classic at the Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill., on Sep. 6. The Illinois College women's golf team placed 10th overall in the team standings. Seiler shot an 81 on Sunday and moved up from a tie for 27th place to finish 19th individually. Riley Ramsey was second among Illinois College competitors, tying for 45th after carding a score of 92.

At University of Illinois Springfield, 36.1% of Black or African American students in Sangamon County who entered in 2018 had earned a bachelor's degree within six years by 2024. Of the 72 students in this group, 26 completed a bachelor's degree during that period according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Sangamon County's completion rate was 3.5 percentage points lower than the statewide rate for Black or African American students, which was 39.6% for the same cohort.

Bruce Chatham logged two scam reports in July 2026, tying it with 69 other cities for 58th among 282 Illinois cities with at least one BBB Scam Tracker report, according to Better Business Bureau. The city had no scam reports in the previous month. One report recorded $25.82 in losses from an online purchase scam. Online purchase was the most common scam type, accounting for one report.
