Ken Griffin to make $3B donation to Carnegie Mellon University
Carnegie Mellon University announced a $3 billion pledge from Citadel CEO Ken Griffin. University officials say the donation is the “largest individual gift in higher education history.” The donation will largely be used to establish a Miami campus for Carnegie Mellon, which has its flagship campus in Pittsburgh. Eric Schmitt introduces Modern Skies Act
Posted online U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Missouri, has introduced an aviation infrastructure bill called the Modern Skies Act. The bill seeks $30 billion for air traffic control, airport towers and airport terminals. Of the total, $10 billion would go toward aging terminals; $10 billion would fund air traffic control modernization; and $10 billion would help make terminal, tower and airport improvements. St. Louis Post-Dispatch owner buys 4 newspapers
Posted online Davenport, Iowa-based newspaper publisher Lee Enterprises, the owner of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, has purchased four newspapers. The seller was USA Today Inc. Lee Enterprises bought newspapers in South Dakota and Montana. They are the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, the Aberdeen American News, the Watertown Public Opinion and the Great Falls Tribune. Additionally, USA Today will assume full ownership and operations of the Arizona Daily Star.
AI could force 11M US workers into new careers by 2035, report says
An estimated 11 million U.S. workers might have to move into different occupations by 2035 due to artificial intelligence and automation, according to a report from consulting firm McKinsey & Co. That would amount to about 6.5% of the current labor force. The McKinsey Global Institute report predicts AI could create more jobs than it replaces by 2035. Read more from CNN.
King Technology opens $17M facility in St. Peters
Minnesota-based water treatment company King Technology has opened a new $17 million facility in St. Peters. The facility marks the company's first expansion outside Minnesota. King Technology makes water treatment products for pools and hot tubs. Read more from First Alert 4.
