Great new movies are streaming at home this weekend. Thankfully, we at ScreenCrush have your weekly guide to the newly released films that deserve your attention while you unwind and relax as the long workweek comes to a close. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays are for watching movies, but if you’re not in the mood to journey out to your local theater, you can always heat up a bag of microwave popcorn, curl up on the couch in your PJs and hit play from the comfort of your own home.

A new G.I. Joe is coming together with a somewhat surprising name at the helm. Deadline reports that Danny McBride has gotten the gig directing he next G.I. Joe film. He has previously been working on its screenplay. When it happens, the movie will be McBride’s feature directorial debut. On screen, McBride is best known as a comedian, having appeared in films like Pineapple Express and Your Highness, and on TV in Eastbound & Down and The Righteous Gemstones.

There are a lot of different ways to see Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey in a theater. Trying to figure out which format is best could take you more time than Matt Damon spends wandering the Mediterranean trying to get back home to Anne Hathaway. Ultimately, the format you pick will come down to three factors: Price, convenience, and personal preference. Yes, certain formats offer a bigger frame and thus a bigger image than others.

The Fast & Furious attraction at Universal Studios Florida is headed toward a supercharged ending. When Universal first announced that this ride, Fast & Furious: Supercharged, was shutting down for good, they originally pegged the closure at a date in 2027. Well, like so many vehicles in this franchise, that timeframe has now been accelerated. The ride will instead close forever in August. The attraction takes guest on a screen-aided adventure with several members of the Fast & Furious cast.

The Batman Part II is now even further away than before. Matt Reeves’ critically acclaimed reinvention of the DC franchise first hit theaters in 2022. Initially, a sequel was planned for the fall of 2025. But 2025 came and went with no sequel. At one point, the movie was on the calendar for the fall of 2026. Until recently, it was expected in theaters in the fall of 2027. Not anymore. As part of a series of adjustments to their release calendar, Warner Bros.

The story of Rocky seems to be over for all intents and purposes. Sylvester Stallone is now 80 years old, and he last played the beloved boxing champ in 2018’s Creed II. Stallone did not return for Creed III, and the hinted spinoff for the aging Rocky out of Creed II has yet to appear. We may have finally seen the last of the Italian Stallion. Ah, but these Hollywood studios are a crafty bunch. Instead of a new Rocky, why not the old one again?

I’ve always wanted to be the very best that no one ever was. I’m an Aries, after all, and we’re as competitive as they come. This arbitrary desire for greatness has bled into my hobbies over the years, driving me to complete niche toy collections and excavate rare dolls and collectibles from garage sales, flea markets, and overpriced antique malls.

The Conjuring will next be haunted by ghosts of its own past. After nine previous movies, the next film in The Conjuring universe will be a prequel, one about the early days of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. In the previous Conjuring films, they were portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, respectively. In the new film — which comes with the admittedly very clever title The Conjuring: First Communion — they will be portrayed by Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix.

The two stars of one of the biggest blockbuster franchises are getting their own ride — although it won’t be easy for stateside fans to try it out. Legendary confirmed that the first ride based on their Monsterverse — featuring the endless battles of Godilla, King Kong, and the other “Titans” — will debut later this month.

The big films of 2026 so far were almost all theatrical events. Box office is up, multiplexes are more crowded than they’ve been in years, and the popcorn is flowing like ... uh, popcorn. (How else would popcorn flow?) But thanks to shrinking theatrical windows. many of the best movies of the year so far are already available for viewing at home right now — and not just for rent from digital video stores like Apple or Amazon or Fandango.
