September 15, 2026 - The Center High School Alumni Association is proud to announce the 2026 Hall of Honor recipient is Leigh Rogers Porterfield, Class of ’76. She was Class Secretary and in the decades since graduation, she has voluntarily kept track of classmates, maintaining a database of pertinent information and informing them of important events. Leigh received a Degree in Human Sciences from Stephen F. Austin State University where she was Awarded the Interior Design Student of the Year.

September 15, 2026 - 50 Woman Impact received a generous donation of $9,800 from Beta Sigma Phi-Eta Rho Group; they are aware of our commitment to assisting Shelby County non-profit groups that make a positive difference in the communities across our county. After consideration, and with the approval of the members, the decision was made to divide the funds between the seven (7) Volunteer Fire Departments (VFD) in Shelby County.

Stars of Service Program, Lunch to Honor Military and Remember Those Gone September 15, 2026 - A Stars of Service program will be held at Pine Grove Nursing Center on Friday, September 18th. As everyone comes together to honor the brave men and women who have served our country and remember those we have lost. Activities will begin at 11am, followed by lunch at 12 noon. This will be a special time of remembrance, gratitude, and fellowship as we celebrate the sacrifices and service of our veterans.

September 15, 2026 - The Center Fire Department responded to a grass and woods fire on FM 2468 at the intersection of SL 500 at 2:20pm on Monday, September 15, 2026. Several structures had also become involved in the fire and additional fire units were requested from Shelbyville. Volunteer Fire Department. The firefighters addressed multiple hot points on the property to extinguish the fires and prevent further spread.

Piney Woods Photographic Society Accepting Poultry Festival Photography Show Entries September 15, 2026 - The Piney Woods Photographic Society (PWPS) will be accepting entries for the East Texas Poultry Festival Open Photography Show this Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 9am to 12 noon at the First Methodist Church basement, 211 Cora Street, Center, Texas Mounting supplies will be available for purchase through the Piney Woods Photographic Society if necessary.

September 15, 2026 - Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) received federal approval to extend the time Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients can apply for replacement benefits for food lost or destroyed due to Tropical Storm Edouard.

September 15, 2026 (Game Photo Album, Cornation Album coming soon) - The Shelbyville Dragon varsity football team improved their season record to 3-0 after a 42-9 point Homecoming win over the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs (1-2) on Friday. Before the game Shelbyville senior student Kaylee Vaughn was crowned as SHS Homecoming Queen. September 14, 2026 - The historical Old East Hamilton Cemetery will have its Annual Homecoming and Dinner on the Grounds on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 11am to 3pm. This is a wonderful time of visiting and singing, as well as conducting the annual business meeting for the cemetery.
