September 15, 2026 - The Center High School Alumni Association is proud to announce the 2026 Hall of Honor recipient is Leigh Rogers Porterfield, Class of ’76. She was Class Secretary and in the decades since graduation, she has voluntarily kept track of classmates, maintaining a database of pertinent information and informing them of important events. Leigh received a Degree in Human Sciences from Stephen F. Austin State University where she was Awarded the Interior Design Student of the Year.
50 Woman Impact Shares Beta Sigma Phi-Eta Rho's Donation with Fire Departments
September 15, 2026 - 50 Woman Impact received a generous donation of $9,800 from Beta Sigma Phi-Eta Rho Group; they are aware of our commitment to assisting Shelby County non-profit groups that make a positive difference in the communities across our county. After consideration, and with the approval of the members, the decision was made to divide the funds between the seven (7) Volunteer Fire Departments (VFD) in Shelby County.

Stars of Service Program, Lunch to Honor Military and Remember Those Gone September 15, 2026 - A Stars of Service program will be held at Pine Grove Nursing Center on Friday, September 18th. As everyone comes together to honor the brave men and women who have served our country and remember those we have lost. Activities will begin at 11am, followed by lunch at 12 noon. This will be a special time of remembrance, gratitude, and fellowship as we celebrate the sacrifices and service of our veterans.

September 15, 2026 - Tired of the heat? Us too... Summer is supposed to be winding down, but the heat doesn’t always get the memo. We’re well past the average last 100°F day across the Shreveport CWA, yet all 7 climate sites have recorded their latest 100°F day after the first day of fall. A Heat Advisory remains in effect through 7 PM Wednesday. Heat index values will range from 105° to 109° during the afternoon hours. Please use caution when outdoors and know the signs of heat related illnesses.
Center FD, Shelbyville VFD Fight Fires on FM 2468, CR 3737
September 15, 2026 - The Center Fire Department responded to a grass and woods fire on FM 2468 at the intersection of SL 500 at 2:20pm on Monday, September 15, 2026. Several structures had also become involved in the fire and additional fire units were requested from Shelbyville. Volunteer Fire Department. The firefighters addressed multiple hot points on the property to extinguish the fires and prevent further spread.

September 15, 2026 (Game Photo Album, Cornation Album coming soon) - The Shelbyville Dragon varsity football team improved their season record to 3-0 after a 42-9 point Homecoming win over the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs (1-2) on Friday. Before the game Shelbyville senior student Kaylee Vaughn was crowned as SHS Homecoming Queen.
