Devices like WLAN switches, which can manage hundreds of access points, deserve a look, especially when setting up an enterprise wireless network. Joel Snyder of Opus One reviews the switch technology and explains why intrusion detection systems and firewalls also need to be carefully added to a "defense in depth" network configuration. The five challenges to preparing data for AI
Having trouble with your AI initiative? You might be looking in the wrong place for answers. Rather than blaming your LLM, consider your data preparation. Bad planning kills more AI projects than bad algorithms. More often than not, the main stumbling block for badly prepared AI projects is data storage that can't keep up. AI is a glutton for data, and most enterprises can't shovel it fast enough.
Intelligent threat detection: Your last layer of storage defense
Don't feel too pleased that you just completed your quarterly cybersecurity audit; today's attackers are moving faster than you are. Ransomware thieves in particular run a long race to destroy your data. It starts with a stealth attack to gain a foothold in your system, and then spreads quietly through your IT infrastructure. They'll steal as much data as they can in the process, possibly over months, before finally pulling the encryption trigger.
How legacy data storage is holding back your AI push
GPU power isn't the only thing that the AI revolution is built on; data storage is just as important. It's a critical part of the enterprise AI story that companies often overlook in their rush for computing power. However, most eventually come to realize its importance, which is why Omdia's research company ESG found eighty-three percent of IT departments planning storage overhauls in the next 2 years.[1] But where's the gap?
Divide and conquer: Why the time is right for disaggregated storage
Converged infrastructure seemed brilliant five years ago. One vendor, one stack, and one throat to choke. But then Broadcom bought VMware, and according to Omdia research company ESG, bumped hypervisor costs for 72% of enterprises in 18 months. CIOs who built their entire infrastructure around VMware are now staring at renewal quotes that blow their budgets — and ripping out hyperconverged systems means starting from scratch.
Got AI aspirations? Consolidate on-premises and cloud data
Life never slows down. With 91% of organizations reporting accelerating IT investment, you'd expect that to mean cloud migration and data center consolidation (in fact, that's what 89% of them told a survey by Omdia company ESG). In reality, their cloud and on-premises infrastructure both keep expanding. Companies aren't replacing old data storage systems. They're adding new ones alongside them as they gear up for greater AI development and deployment.
Why recovery speed, not backup capacity, drives cyber resilience
Ransomware has changed everything. Attackers now encrypt faster than most organizations can even detect a breach, leading to devastating consequences. Research from ESG (part of Omdia) shows that almost half of organizations recover 50% or less of their data after a ransomware attack, and 69% still end up paying the ransom. That desperation tells you everything about how broken traditional recovery really is. The industry has been looking at this backwards.
Your backups are now the target, and most recovery plans aren't ready for it
In 2025, ESG (part of Omdia) found that 92% of organizations experienced a ransomware attack in the previous twelve months, and close to half discovered the malware had been lurking in their environment for eight days or longer before anyone noticed.3 That dwell time matters far more than most security teams appreciate. Modern ransomware operators don't detonate on arrival. They move laterally, escalate privileges, and steal whatever they can reach.
Is your data security strategy ready for AI?
Many enterprises have data security strategies that are more likely to have been forced upon them by history than actively chosen. Someone picked a backup policy for the on-premises warehouse in 2018, while HR chose a cloud data security option when it started its first AWS workloads three years later. Edge sites got whatever the regional integrator recommended. While rational at the time, each such decision is siloed.
