BREST, France (AP) — Two sailors were missing Sunday after a French-registered fishing trawler sank southwest of the British port of Plymouth, French authorities said. The Maranello contacted another trawler, the Stradale, on Saturday to report a problem with its fishing gear. The Stradale managed to recover three of the five crew members before the Maranello sank, the French naval prefecture for the Atlantic said. Two sailors remained missing despite a major search-and-rescue operation.

MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Karina strengthened into a hurricane in the Pacific Ocean on Sunday and could become a major storm this week, forecasters said. The cyclone's center was at far out sea and was not threatening land.

BODRUM, Turkey (AP) — A ferry carrying more than 260 passengers capsized off the coast of northern Cyprus on Sunday, Turkish media reported. The catamaran-style ferry was traveling from the port of Kyrenia, also known as Girne, to the Turkish port of Tasucu in Mersin province. There are no reports of casualties so far. Article continues below this ad The ferry started taking in water a few kilometers off the coast, the Turkish state-run TRT news channel reported.

BERLIN (AP) — A man suspected of fatally stabbing a 31-year-old British woman with a knife early Sunday morning in the southern German town of Rosenheim was detained, authorities said. The woman, who was attacked at the Rosenheim train station, was taken to a nearby hospital where she died due to serious injuries, Rosenheim police said. Federal police officers, called to the scene, detained the suspect right after the stabbing.
