INTRODUCTION Recent advances in logging-while-drilling (LWD) technology have enabled sensing of the subsurface environment tens of meters away from the well using a suite of extra-deep or ultradeep azimuthal resistivity (EDAR and UDAR, respectively) electromagnetic (EM) logs.
