Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs) are already practising many of these approaches on the ground. Yet those same communities are too often missing from the conversations shaping aquaculture NbS.

However, treescape planning in urban areas needs to account for many different, often competing, policy objectives: resource and space constraints, flood regulation, people’s wellbeing, biodiversity concerns, and more.

Air pollution is widely recognized as a major environmental threat to human health that contributes to cardiovascular conditions and is responsible for premature deaths globally. In contrast, its impact on insects has received lesser attention, even though insects are crucial for pollinating crops and supporting healthy ecosystems.

Methane is an invisible, potent greenhouse gas and forms a short-lived climate pollutant, damaging people’s health and crop yields. The major sources of methane are agriculture, the oil and gas sector and waste management. The Angera Declaration emphasizes the need for coordinated technological and political actions to reduce methane emissions.

The project explores how local champions, trusted advice and accessible finance can support home retrofit uptake in York and North Yorkshire. This event will introduce the aims of the project, explain what support is available for people interested in becoming Home Upgrade Champions, and offer an opportunity to ask questions and meet others with similar interests.

Nearly 60% of buildings in the UK carry poor energy performance ratings. Retrofit interventions can improve buildings’ energy efficiency: a necessary intervention given that buildings account for approximately 34% of global CO2 emissions. However, incomplete and fragmented data is hampering systematic retrofit planning in the UK.

The findings highlight that while legal recognition represents an important step, its transformative potential depends on broader political, institutional and epistemic conditions: 1. Legal recognition is a starting point, not a solution. Granting legal personhood to rivers introduces a significant normative shift but does not in itself ensure implementation or desired ecological outcomes.

But in recent years, we have witnessed a shift towards a different model of climate action, one less focused on pledges and more on delivery and actionable solutions. “Climate weeks” have rapidly emerged as flagship platforms for turning regional climate commitments into practical action.

While Global North (classified by UN Trade and Development, UNCTAD) markets are building formal lithium-ion recycling systems, many Global South markets still rely on cheaper but highly toxic lead-acid batteries for low-cost mobility. This creates unequal environmental and human health risks, especially where informal recycling dominates and regulation is weak.
