Search ArticlesHow to track your AI citations and sources with Semrush
When your brand is missing from AI answers, look at the pages those answers cite. Those sources can show you which websites AI platforms rely on for the prompts that matter to your business, which competitor pages appear repeatedly, and where your brand is absent. The Sources report in Semrush’s Prompt Tracking shows the most cited domains and pages across your target prompts, so you can spot citation gaps and close them.
Multi-location SEO: How to build a scalable strategy
The more locations you manage, the more easily small SEO problems multiply. An outdated Yelp business listing or an incorrect Google Business Profile (GBP) is easy to fix once. But across dozens of locations, the same issue is much harder to correct. A multi-location SEO strategy solves this with repeatable processes for managing data, pages, profiles, reviews, and performance while preserving what makes each location locally relevant.
Google AI Overviews now appear for most major brands
Google now shows AI Overviews on most branded searches. In new data from DemandSphere, AI Overviews appeared for 26.12% of the branded queries it tracks on September 1. They peaked at 90.48% on September 27 and were at 82.06% on September 29, the last day in its data. DemandSphere's numbers cover all markets and devices, and they haven’t said how many keywords it tracks. Other data puts the starting point much higher.
AEO vs SEO: core differences & how to win visibility in both
Search now happens in two places at once: Google's results pages and the AI-generated answers inside ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's own AI Overviews. And winning only one of them leaves real traffic and brand visibility on the table. Because a page built purely to rank in organic search won’t necessarily get pulled into an AI-generated answer (and vice versa).
The LLM positioning lag: What it is and how to avoid it
Repositioning your business helps you stay relevant as markets shift. For example, maybe you're a consultant who used to specialize in one service and have since expanded into a broader practice. Or maybe you're a company that started out serving small businesses and have since moved upmarket to enterprise. Either way, repositioning takes time and costs money. So once you've done it, you need people to actually know about it.
Google releases September 2026 spam update
Google released the September 2026 spam update on September 24. It applies worldwide and in all languages. This is Google's fourth spam update of 2026. Google says the rollout may take up to two weeks to finish. Search Engine Roundtable's Barry Schwartz asked whether the two-week estimate was a typo. Google's John Mueller replied on Bluesky that it's "likely to take longer than some of the previous ones." Google hasn't said what this update targets.

B2B answer engine optimization: How to show up in AI
When buying committee members ask AI tools like Google’s AI Mode about potential vendors, each answer names a select number of brands. And you’re far more likely to be considered if your brand is one of them. B2B answer engine optimization (AEO) is how your brand earns a place in those AI-generated answers. In this guide, we’ll cover exactly what B2B AEO is, why it matters now, and how to implement it. What is B2B answer engine optimization?
Google's AI contribution pilot pays publishers
Google is testing a program that pays publishers when their content shapes an AI-generated answer. The AI contribution pilot runs inside Google Search Console, where invited publishers can accept the terms and see what they've earned. Digiday reported the payments on September 14, publishing screenshots of Google's help documentation and interviews with publisher executives in the pilot.
AI citation outreach: a Semrush & Claude workflow
Optimizing for AI search is both an on-page and off-page effort. Your website should be accessible and optimized for AI models. And it also needs to appear on third-party websites that these models cite when answering user prompts. This guide breaks down the AI citation outreach process step by step. You’ll learn how to find citation opportunities in Semrush and how to automate the process in Claude Code. What is AI citation outreach?
