The N.H. Department of Environmental Services has channeled over $223 million in state and federal dollars to PFAS response efforts over the last seven years. But extensive investment, and work on the ground, is still needed to keep abreast of the man-made problem, according to a May report from the department.

NEEDHAM, Mass. - Four residents from the Monadnock Region and surrounding communities will join thousands of cyclists Aug. 1-2 in the 2026 Pan-Mass Challenge, a two-day fundraising ride supporting cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

RINDGE - Monadnock Music will present "Weary Blues," a program of vocal and chamber music exploring themes of longing, loss, resilience and redemption, with free performances July 11 and July 12 in Rindge and Keene. Operatic baritone Aaron Engebreth returns to the stage for the program, joined by cellist Rafael Popper-Keizer and pianist Yoko Hagino.

Ranae O'Neil has been installed as president of the Rotary Club of Keene for the 2026-27 year, succeeding Denise LaRoche. O'Neil was recognized during the club's annual passing of the gavel ceremony June 29 at the Harrisville Village Community Center.

By Ten members of the Monadnock Cycling Club will participate in the 45th annual Prouty on July 10 and 11 in Hanover, raising money for the Dartmouth Cancer Center. Riding as Team Hoss and The Beam Team, the cyclists have raised more than $23,000. The total was matched dollar for dollar by the Jack & Dorothy Byrne Foundation, bringing their contribution to more than $46,000.

By HARRISVILLE - Harrisville's 2026 Old Home Days will be held Saturday, July 18, on Canal and Island streets, with crafts, food, live music, family activities and evening dancing planned throughout the day. Events begin at 10 a.m. on Canal Street with craft vendors and family activities, including wooden boat decorating and races, face painting, games, a cakewalk and a silent cake auction. Live music is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Bulletin Two New Hampshire transgender students are dropping their lawsuit against a state law barring them from girls' sports teams, a week after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a similar law in West Virginia. Parker Tirrell and Iris Turmelle will no longer continue their effort to overturn House Bill 1205, according to a motion filed in the U.S. District Court of N.H. Wednesday. The investigation into a shooting involving an off-duty Peterborough police officer over the weekend will evaluate whether it was an act of self-defense. The off-duty officer, who has not been named by authorities yet, was hospitalized with incised stab wounds, and 24-year-old Peterborough resident Jack Hutchings was found dead from gunshot wounds outside a Grove Street residence on Sunday evening.
