On August 3, 1983, Prince live debuted one of the greatest songs in music history, "Purple Rain," that would catapult his already flourishing career, sell millions of records, fill arenas with fans basking in his incredible live show, and earn him countless awards. The performance that night was also a perfect storm of sorts. It was the first time all of the members of The Revolution would play together in front of an audience.

Some news outlets called it Rainypalooza, and some of the sets had to be shortened and even canceled. But somehow almost everyone who was supposed to perform did so in Grant Park at the 35th Lollapalooza in Chicago. And while there were way more highlights than these, here are a few moments that will always mean Lolla '26.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the greatest band in the fucking world," Sombr said Thursday (7/30) on opening day of Lollapalooza, "5 Seconds of Summer." The Aussie band then came on stage and played their 2014 major label debut, "She Looks So Perfect." It was quite a shock to many of the 5SOS fans, especially those who were at the T-Mobile Stage yesterday afternoon who had just seen the band perform earlier in the day.

Day three of Newport Folk proved to be the pinnacle of the weekend. A slew of living legends made their way onto the stage for surprise performances, up-and-comers successfully knocked their debut appearances off without a hitch, and established names were able to reinvent themselves in never-before-seen ways. The Quad Stage won the day with its run of Dove Ellis, Searows, The Fearless Flyers, Tom Morello, and Brandon Flowers, each offering their own stylistically distinct touches to the stage.

Glen Hansard was born to be a musician. He left school at 13 and began busking on Dublin’s streets. Music would be central to his life. The public first really saw him at age 20 when he played the guitarist Outspan Foster in Alan Parker’s 1991 film The Commitments, the award-winning musical-comedy about an Irish soul band. Around that time, Hansard formed The Frames in Dublin and remained the group’s singer, guitarist and principal songwriter.

Ariana Grande has continued to keep fans guessing throughout her Eternal Sunshine Tour, and with just one show remaining before the release of her upcoming album Petal, she's already racked up 10 live debuts on the trek. The latest additions came on July 28 at Centre Bell in Montreal, Quebec, where Grande surprised the crowd by performing the title track, "Petal," live for the first time.

Lollapalooza 2006 went down from August 4-6 in Chicago’s lakefront Grant Park, where the supersized eclectic spectacle graduated from curious experiment to an annual permanent cultural destination. After returning in 2005 as a two-day fest, Lollapalooza expanded in 2006 to a three days, eight stages and 130+ performers. The party amassed nearly two miles of park, which meant for the catch-22 of lots of space but long walks between sets.

Set Your Goals are the latest group to announce a 20th anniversary tour, bringing Mutiny! back to the stage for a run of anniversary shows. The Bay Area pop-punk/melodic hardcore band will begin on September 12 at Warped Tour in Mexico before stopping in Philadelphia, New York City, Orlando, Los Angeles and more.“ ‘Mutiny!’ turned 20 years old this year! We’re very excited to announce that we will be playing some shows to celebrate the occasion,” Set Your Goals said in a statement.

Camp is officially back in session for scene kids everywhere — with Silverstein and Story Of The Year officially announcing the “Camp Screamo 2 tour” for the fall of 2026. The co-headlining trek kicks off November 16 in Seattle and runs through mid-December, bringing Stand Atlantic and Footballhead along for the ride. “Camp Screamo is back!!!” says Silverstein frontman Shane Told.

Just two days prior to their headline Great South Bay music festival set in Patchogue, NY this past weekend, Sublime stopped by the Silver Lining Lounge in downtown NYC for an intimate, and often impromptu, performance. Since its opening in late 2022, the moody and upscale piano bar and lounge, located within the Moxy Hotel on Bowery, has become more than just a go-to spot for intricate cocktails and solid small bites.
