FORT BRANCH — Fort Branch Town Council met in a special meeting Sept. 2 to discuss utility ordinances and an agreement to allow Mainstream Fiber Networks to operate in town. In their August meeting, the town council learned Mainstream had been working in town limits without notifying the town. According to Town President Scotty DeLong, other towns in the area, for example, Owensville had issues with the internet provider.

FORT BRANCH — Travis Wayne Tarter, 78, of Fort Branch, died at his home Aug. 29, 2026. He was born April 28, 1948, in Edmonson County, Kentucky, to Hoyt Herbert and Rosa Nell (Morris) Tarter. He was a member of Owensville United Methodist Church, where he attended with his wife, Elaine. He earned an associate degree in accounting and worked for Whayne Supply for 42 years. OWENSVILLE - Fluoride will no longer be added to Owensville's drinking water after members of the town council voted 2-1 Wednesday to discontinue to decades-old public health practice. Corey Taylor voted in favor of keeping fluoride in the water while the other two members, Dwayne Matsel and Isaac Cox voted against providing fluoride in the town's drinking water. The decision followed a lengthy discussion over fluoride's potential benefits and risks.

PRINCETON — Austin Dill, 29, Princeton, is in custody without bond, facing multiple child pornography charges. Sheriff Bruce Vanoven reported Dill was taken into custody Tuesday by Detectives Jennifer Loesch and Roger Ballard at a home in the 1,000 block of East Emerson Street on a warrant ordered by Gibson Superior Court Judge Robert Krieg.

OWENSVILLE — Leo John Spindler, 93, of Owensville passed away Aug. 15, 2026, at his home. Leo was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Haubstadt to  Frank and Rosa (Pohl) Spindler. After returning from the service, Leo met the love of his life, Rosalie Mohr, in 1957. They married on Nov. 21, 1959, and shared 52 wonderful years until her passing in 2011. Together, they built a life on their farm, raising pigs, growing crops, and caring for many animals.
