Frédéric Michalak, a legend of French Rugby, has joined the Sharks coaching ranks after completing his coaching commitments with European rugby powerhouse Racing 92. Since arriving in Australia this week, Michalak travelled to Brisbane with the NRL squad in kicking off his tenure at the Sharks in the capacity of assistant coach.

The warning for the travelling Sharks may well be to beware a battered and battling Broncos side for when the two teams meet at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night. The Broncos come into the match 13th on the NRL ladder, with just five wins from 15 matches played and having lost their past seven games. It is the worst losing streak for a Premiership winning team in over 70 years. Like the Sharks they have a number unavailable while in Origin camp, with a handful of players also sidelined with injury.

The Sharks suffered an 18-4 loss to Newcastle to start the NRLW season at Ocean Protect Stadium. Though the battle began as an even contest, the Knights quickly proved why they have been a consistent threat to the competition with their completion rate, kicking game, and strong attack too good for the hosts. Cronulla's defence was a bright spot in the first half, only conceding 4 points, but the home side ran out of steam, and the Knights ran away with it in the second.

After falling just short of a back-to-back grand final appearance in 2025, the Sharks are hoping to make a bold statement to the rest of the competition, as they host the opening match of the 2026 NRLW campaign against the Newcastle Knights.
