A YOUNG woman who has spent the last 2.5 years collecting and researching 30kg of sheep faeces this week was rewarded with a major national industry award. Federation University PhD student Rebecca Farnell, 25, scored top prize in the LambEx26 Coles Trailblazers program for her study into intestinal worms in sheep. Her work has led to a proposed app to alert producers of past, current and potential sheep worm outbreaks.

Global AgriTrends analyst Brett Stuart told LambEx delegates in Adelaide yesterday that stellar demand has taken lamb and beef prices to extreme levels, primarily in America.

SHEEP farmers could soon be able to estimate their flock’s liveweight and fleece weight in real time, without the need for labour-intensive handling. The sale will see land use at Rushy Lagoon in the state’s north-east transition from beef and dairy production and cropping into forestry over much of its 21,745ha.
