Fresh from a successful Worlds 2024, League of Legends eSports is about to start 2025 with a slew of new events, tournaments, and a super-region to start off the teams per region on their way to Worlds 2025. With LCS transforming into LTA North and LTA South, respectively, and the League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) giving teams from the Asia-Pacific region to make a name for themselves anew, competition will be higher than ever before.

The Kwangdong Freecs, formerly known as Afreeca Freecs, have recently inked a sponsorship deal with DN Group. As part of their deal, Kwangdong Freecs have now rebranded as DN Freecs. Having a new sponsor for the long-standing LCK team is another notch moving forward for them, as they make the necessary preparations for the upcoming 2025 season.

Last week, the Red Bull League of Its Own 2024 took place at the Accor Arena in Paris, France. This has been Red Bull’s annual event that pits League of Legends teams from across the regions in a special, non-competitive tournament. Among the participants are T1, this year’s League of Legends Worlds champions, and most notably, Los Ratones, a team of European LoL players and streamers that were recruited by famous LoL streamer and former esports player Caedrel.

The PW Shanghai Major 2024 has recently concluded, and standing tall after the intense CS2 action was Team Spirit, who fought tooth and nail to get to the finals. Their opponent was FaZe Clan, who came close to winning it all thanks to a huge comeback. However, after a grueling best of three match, Team Spirit was the one raising up the PW Shanghai Major 2024 trophy.

The KeSPA Cup 2024 concluded over the weekend, and after a number of days of high-level League of Legends matches, the two teams that clashed for the championship were OKSavingsBank BRION and Dplus KIA. In a competitive best-of-5 series, OKSavingsBank BRION were on point and gave Dplus KIA a run for their money. At the end of it all, OKSavingsBank BRION came out on top. Along with the championship, OKSavingsBank BRION won $28,065.24, and Dplus KIA’s second place finish was rewarded with $14,032.62.

Known as “T1 ZOFGK,” their championship roster consisted of Faker, Oner, Zeus, Keria, and Gumayusi. It is worth noting that T1 has been running this lineup from 2020 to their recent championship run, and during this iteration of T1, they have been competing in Worlds, resulting in 2 championships.

After a three-year absence, the Korean eSports Association (KeSPA) Cup will happen this year. KeSPA 2024 will have a new format that features a 12-team tournament featuring the 10 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) organizations as well as Vietnam and Chinese Taipei all-star rosters. According to a translated press release, the tournament will take place from November 30th to December 8th and will feature both online and offline play.

T1, last year’s League of Legends Worlds champions, have defended their championship in this year’s Worlds 2024 championship match against LPL’s BLG. The finals, which was held in the famous O2 Arena in the United Kingdom, saw two teams battle each other in a highly competitive best-of-5 series. The titanic matchup between the two highly talented teams lived up to the big match feel.
